Default Zeroing Tech Sights

(I'm putting this here instead of in rimfire because I need an AR-15 front sight post and this seemed like a better place for advice about that.)

I recently got some tech sights to finish my “liberty training rifle” for use in an Appleseed at some point in the future. I put it all together and took it to the range to zero it at 25m, which is the distance that Appleseed uses. The problem is that all of the shots are high and I have the rear sight all the way down and the front sight all the way up. So, obviously, I need a taller front sight. This is where you guys come in, I can’t figure out what front sight to get.

The front sight of the Tech Sights is a standard AR-15 style front sight and it measures 0.300 from top of flange to top of post.

The gun is shooting about 2” high at 25m, so how tall would the new front sight post need to be to correct this?

I bought a kit from Midway that came with like 6 different AR front sight posts. All of them were taller than the standard one, but you could choose different thicknesses and whatnot.

was it all the same ammo or different types

because maybe some of it has to do with the ammo used

I've tried with two different types of ammo and it was consistently high with both.

OP is correct, I had the exact same trouble with mine. Had to get taller front sight for both my AR and my wife's 10/22

Not the most satisfying answer, but simple if needed: just use a bit of Kentucky Windage to drop the pill into the X ring. Or a blob of JB Weld on the post and file/smooth down until dead on.

I might resort to that if I can't get a front sight post that's tall enough, but I'd rather keep it as a back-up plan.

I would return/exchange it for the TSR100 set. I recently put this in my 10/22 and it's a whole new gun, far more capable. Zero took about 25 shots to dial in perfectly.

With the TSR100 the No. 2 aperture is for 50 yards and the other is calibrated for 100 yards. It just works so well, I recommend it.

I've had them too long to exchange them at this point, so I'm going to try to make it work. If I get another set in the future, then I'll probably go with the TSR100

Update: I contacted Tech Sights and Erik there really went above and beyond to help.

Apparently KNS makes a "Square .072 Front Sight .040 Taller" that measures .335", so it should be tall enough to help me zero it. I ordered one and once I get it and take it to the range, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
