The prices on the auction site are always high. People on there pay a premium and justify it because proceeds support the CMP.

They will open orders up again a couple of months, just hold out until then and order a service grade.

I dont see anything over $1500? Rifles on auction are Garands that have collector valuee. That being said people on the auction site have more money than sense. If they auctioned a pile of dog crap and stamped it CMP someone would buy it

There were a few auctions ending last night that were high $2's and into the low $3's.

Those I saw last night didn't seem all that different than the ones I picked up 5 years ago for $625/ea. The great thing back then was they all came with GI wood, and if you ordered enough of them you could begin swapping parts between rifles and get pretty close to having correct grades. It was really fun researching what the period correct parts where for the different manufacturers over the years.

But I can completely understand what looks to me as "nice" CMP Garands selling for $3k when the normal sales channel on the CMP website has dried up for the time being.

The people that spend that kind of money on a Garand probably have enough money that there is no real difference to them whether they spend $700 or $3k.

I checked the auctions you were talking about
As I said before they are "collector" rifles
6 mil HRA rifles are rare ,only 400 made in that serial range , 6 mil SA are not rare but very collectable, the other was a AFPG National Match rifle.
Those rifles are not your normal Service Grades that you bought a few years back, your are not comparing apples to apples

Can someone please explain how I can accomplish this? Looking for a service grade Garand - CMP website obviously shows sold out. Want to make sure all my ducks are in a row and get myself in the queue if that's possible.

The other poster is incorrect, there is no waiting list, if you send in a order it will be returned. You have to wait with everyone else until ordering is opened again
In the meantime get everything ready as far as meeting qualifications. Anything you need to know is clearly listed on their website

And six digit service grades are now in the collector value category (apparently).

The bottom of the barrel must be close at hand.......

Just took home the latest batch of CMP service grades. 2 Springfields with WWII SNs and original barrels and USGI walnut stocks. And an HRA LEAD 65 rebuild in a birch stock.

Rumor has it that there was a shipment of returns from New Zealand.

More pics of the HRA LEAD rebuild that was in this last batch. Doesn't look like it was fired much, ME 1+, TE 2. If CMP is scraping the bottom of the barrel to "build" rifles, I don't see it with this batch. All GI wood.

After reading through this thread I'm sincerely glad I bought a cmp service grade H&R in 2010. Requested USGI furniture and couldn't be happier with it. Delivered to my front door for $625 as I remember. A real treasure. If you don't already have one from the CMP do what you gotta do to get one of the last true bargains in the gun world before its to late. My 2 cents

LEAD rebuild w/ an SA - 65 Bbl.

Should be a shooter.

P.S.

I left my X-ray glasses in my other jacket, and can't read the hang-tags on those girls w/o 'em.

I strategically turned em upside down. I don't know why.
