My phoenix Arms HP22 is my favorite right now, but I just ordered one of these and it might be the new champ

Hi Standard. They are making really nice ones again here in Houston, where I moved to. Bob Shea still works for them. He made the old ones. The people at their facility are cool, and they do make some to special order if you want.

Definitely some great choices here. I started with a a Sig Mosquito for the feel. It's particular on ammunition, but once broken in cycles smoothly. If I get another .22LR pistol, I'll refer to this thread for a list of pistols to try. Love those 22/45s. Lot's of nice pistols in .22LR.

I am a big fan of the basic .22 Ruger Automatic Pistol (pre-Mark I) since I made a super cheap magazine lip tweaking tool. Now all my mags function 100%

Ruger MKII or Browning Buckmark.

The MKIII are good also but the added features don't add up to a better firearm. If your on a budge the S&W 22A will shoot just about as good for quite a bit less.

I just got one too and its quickly becoming my fave gun. I've already shot a good 350-450 rounds flawless rounds through it. I only wish there was a way to make it a little heavier to replicate actual weight of my G34. I also noticed the trigger pull is a little longer with it on.

Not to thread-jack, but DVSmith, there are some threads here and on GlockTalk that provide some info on polishing and modifying the magazines to improve the FTF/FTE issues with the AA conversion kit. PM me if you need help finding them.

Ditto, I did this polish job right out of the box. If you know what you're doing, shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to do. I've run CCI Mini Mags and Remington 550 bulk ammo flawlessly. Despite the included card saying not to use Remington Thunderbolts, mine still runs them with less than 10% failure (not great, but it still works). It really doesn't like Federal at all.

Put over 10,000 rounds through my 22/45 and it runs great dirty, clean, nearly all kinds of ammo too. The grip is a little on the slim side, but it's a great shooter.

As far as I know, you can't change the barrel of the rugers without dros another action because the barrel and receiver are one. With my buckmark, I can and do change my barrels at will. I have a stock 5.5 bull barrel with scope rib and a burris 4x , I have a stock slim micro 4 inch barrel for easy carry and a t.s. lightweight 5.5 barrel for the range.

You can remove the barrels, although it's somewhat of a pain. You have to chuck the barrel and unscrew the receiver by either making your own custom action wrench, or kicking down $90 for the Brownell's head. -But it can be done.

My two favorites are my Ruger Mark I with bull barrel and my Colt Woodsman Match Target gen. 3. Both will shoot just about anything and I have owned both for around 30 years. Both are accurate and have been very reliable.

Ruger MkII. There are a lot of nice .22's out there, but I've always been a fan of the Mk series and all of their variants.

I have shot almost everything out there from Colts to Firestorms to Berettas. I love Ruger Marks. They are basically flawless, and super accurate for a 22. I currently have a P22 that is tits. Debated between that and a Mosquito, but heard too many bad things about the Sig. The P22 has been flawless. I got it mostly to simulate a more modern handgun, which the Ruger doesn't really do. It fills the role nicely. Mostly I just enjoy shooting it, because it is cheap to shoot.

Did I mention that I love my P22?

If you think about used guns I would go with the High Standard Model B. It is super reliable shoots any ammunition and is the most accurate 22 pistol I have ever shot. This is one always gets to go to the range.

I was in the same boat. I got the P22 instead. I love it as well. Enough said.

Oh, and it can be picky sometimes. I put 1000-1500 rounds of CCI mini mags through it originally. After that I went for bulk hoping it would feed almost anything. It HATES federal bulk and won't feed it worth sh**. I now get the CCI blazers, which is cheaper anyways in bulk. It feeds the blazers flawlessly.

How strange. Mine has shot federal bulk almost exclusively, and loves it. Maybe yours got "broke in" with the mini mags. Who knows???

Currently, I shoot mainly a prelock S&W 617 especially for 25+ yds. I also shoot a .22lr Ruger SP101 and a G19 frame with an AA kit for short and mid ranges (15 yds or less), but I shoot the revolvers more. What can I say? .22lr revolvers are more fun.

In current production...Buckmarks with the fiber optic sights are the most hunting friendly for my money. If you like the Browning hi-power/CZ grip, it will probably be your favorite. If you prefer the 1911 grip, then the Ruger will probably suit you better

I had a Buckmark that would put almost every shot into a dime size group at 7 yards at the range, scary accurate. Thing I like about the Buckmark is the cheap trigger job, flip a spring and your set. For the money I say the Buckmark offers the most in it's price class.
