Default Just bought a new toy

i have to wait the needless 10 days but i just bought a Savage 93r17-BV? It doesnt show up on savages website but its a heavy barrel blued with what appears to be a laminate stock. I only have one good arm because of my shoulder surgery so i didnt dig into it to deep. I havent seen any around so I just grabbed it when I saw it. It was 349.99 plus LA county tax 9% ouch! and a very reasonable 25 for DROS. Some places around here really gouge for additional dros charges.

I have to say if you live in the Antelope Valley (lancaster palmdale area) go to the Raspy Rabbit in Palmdale. MUCH better customer service than any other gun store in the AV and better prices. My wife even found the wait while i did paperwork enjoyable. No military discount on firearms, but ammo, parts and gear get a little discount.

Now time to go scope shopping!

Nice I've been looking at those too. I don't know much about rimfire scopes. I'm pretty sure it is against the law for a store to charge more then 25 for the DROS. I suspect they can charge you a processing fee or something like that, anything but an additions DROS fee. Check your receipt the DROS should only say 25, never anymore then that.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I know they can only charge 25 but usually around here your "fees" before sales tax is 35-45 because of the storage/handling fees they charge.

Thanks,
Barryt

yep. They were so nice I spent money there instead of on base. Base price matches and there is no tax, but id rather support an awesome local business.

I have two a FV & BTSS thumb hole stock, the FV has a cheaply Centerpoint 4x16 44mm shoots great & a Mueller APV on the other I'm amazed how accurate the 17 HMR is. I did use Burris Signature rings on both.

You are gonna love the way that rifle shoots, I have one an it wears a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x that I got at a steal for $280, now $430. Great scope with side focus and very thin crosshairs. Easily see those .17 cal bullets @ 100yds. I suggest a Weaver V-24 6-24X as an alternative. Not cheap but a great scope and they hold their value like a 65 Corvette. I recently purchased a Weaver T-24 (24X) target dot scope for the Calguns rimfire match, crystal clear, excellent turrets with no slop. Weaver is quality at a mid-range price.

Me and my wife just bought all the 17hmr ammo up at walmart I bought a 17hmr for two reasons: The monthly rimfire match and I can still buy ammo almost any where even though its a fair amount more then 22lr in most cases. Walmart is 13.67+9% tax for 50 CCI FMJs. Im going on base tomorrow and again they price match and there is no sales tax and they ALWAYS have 17hmr.

I hate to quote and correct myself but the bx is sold out of 17hmr and so is both big 5s and both walmarts. Im guess my area is seeing a 17hmr shortage, but tons of 22mag around. On that note the rude/crappy gun store here in lancaster has a CZ that comes with 3 barrels 17hmr, 22lr and 22mag. Its 650 i think maybe that'll be my next purchase.

Mueller makes a nice scope. Under $300 at Midway.

I am a big fan of Mueller rifle scopes. I have an APV on my custom 10/22. I did not have $240 after I bought the rifle so I went against my judgement and went with reviews from other customers and picked up the barska excavator 6-24x50. Its the best reviewed scope made by barska.

I purchase my .17HMR ammo here, best prices I have found. Of course they are out of stock now but for future purchases after the madness is over you may want to look here: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.co...sku=0000383170

Sometimes they have $6 flat shipping, especially around Christmas time. Hope the Barska works out, let us know what you think of it.

I picked up my rifle today. Love it! Can't shoot it quite yet because of my shoulder but i should be able to handle the "recoil" of this beast soon. I have aquired 650rnds during my waiting period. 200rnds of 20gr CCI FMJs and 450rnds of the Winchester 17gr polymer tip varmint rounds. I did go cheap on the scope (6-24x50 Barska Excavator). I tossed out the savage wever bases and the barska rings and installed my DNZ one piece Game Reaper mount.
