Currently in 10-day jail. Very lucky with this one.
Serial number 2000xxx, service grade.
The tag says Remington frame and Colt slide, but the slide doesn't look like anything I've seen before. Does anyone know more about it? Is it still 'correct'?

Itching to throw in some new springs and take it to the range.

You are right, not that weird. I just have not seen it yet but I am sure it happens a lot. I don’t see many of those no-ring grips at all.

Maybe a commercial slide? But does not look like the slide on my 1942 civilian to military conversion. Looks like a more modern slide, maybe Colt provided spare parts to the government later on in the 60s 70s or 80s? Or maybe the govt was still buying 1911s then? I don’t think it is a WW2 or earlier slide.

I’m sure it’s correct in that it came from Army inventory and some military armorer or arsenal assembled it like that from government parts.

Whatever it is, it’s pretty cool. Hopefully someone else can tell us more about it.

An armorer needed a certain G.I. slide to fit to his personal privately owned 1911A1 so he took it and put a commercial slide on in its place?

The mind boggles mulling over the possibilities. I am not even sure if it is a commercial type slide, hoping someone else recognizes it.

Colt provided that slide as a replacement part. There are a few variations. Colt provided NM slides for the 1911s made by Springfield Armory for Camp Perry. There are several other commercial suppliers of slides and barrels.

Recently picked up a M1911A1 from CMP with a Colt frame and Union Switch & Signal slide. Here is a pic with more details and pics at the link below.

New update today from CMP says they have no information on the release of any more pistols from the Army. With FY19 for the Army ending in weeks and no legislative authorization to sell any more 1911s beyond that, looks like those of us in the "second batch" are really out of luck.

Bummer. Glad I internalized this outcome as likely quite awhile back.

I wish they didn't go the auction route and just let some people randomly get a golden ticket. Oh well. I'm sure it was to stop any flipping.

Yep best way to stop anyone else from flipping is to flip it yourself.

That golden ticket is nice. I wonder how many NM A1s they got? Had to be more than one.

I was 8686. Didn’t get in at first but got a call last week. Have a 1911A1 in jail now!
If you’re around 9000 RGN you have a shot. Watch your email and calls from Alabama.

No, the reason they went to auction with specialty 1911's is to get all they can out of what they have to sell so they can continue to support their mission which is to support firearms safety , handling, marksmanship, etc with the emphasis towards youth. It is not to supply collectors with cheap 1911's

Remington Rand frame with a switch & signal slide. SN and US Property markings are hard to read from reparkerizing. Hoping to find more proof marks under stuff when I get it home and can strip it down.

Prett happy. Very happy with fit and condition. A 7 digit serial. Made in 1944 so tail end of WWII.

Wow, congrats!! I never thought they would get into the 91xx range with the first batch, and with a choice of grades to boot. I guess a lot of people are passing for whatever reason. Maybe there is still hope for me at 10,001!!!

I hear the CMP lottery numbers are reaching 9,500-10,000.

Service Grade. 1,037,xxx 1943 Remington-Rand frame/1970s USGI government contract replacement slide. Came with box, papers, and one magazine. Shipped bone dry/light gray. Cleaned up nice. Besides a semi-rusted plunger spring, this thing is solid!

I think that CAGE code on the slide is for MKB. If they are really getting to 10,000 I may be getting a call soon!

I believe you are right. A 1960s-1980s replacement. From what I understand they are ‘fully hardened’ and made quite well, even if not the most collectible.

Watch your calls from Alabama. Make sure your voicemail is set up and not full. You have 5 business days to respond. They’ll tell you the Grades available at that time. Good luck!

I just got the call from Anniston! All three grades available. MY RNG was 10,001

I have a service grade coming!! Pics when I get it, I get to walk out with it same day it shows up at my FFL.

Sounds like there is still hope for a lot of people, I never thought it would get this far.

My wife just got her's in as well.

So each of our boys can inherit one. Mine is Service, and her's is Field. Both are Rem Rand's over a Colt. The different it seems is mine was given a new parkerization and her's wasn't.

Pictures will follow in a few weeks.

My brother was on the phone with CMP this morning after receiving voice mail last Friday afternoon. His RGN is 987X. He was offered and accepted a service grade. Pretty awesome at this point in the game. I received my service grade (Colt/Rem) a couple months ago.
