Voltage isn't the only thing to worry about. We run 60HZ here in the states. Not sure about the Middle East but Europe runs at 50HZ. If you are going to DC out it shouldn't make a difference. BUT make sure if you aren't going to be on 60HZ power whatever you are taking is rated for 50HZ.

You won't need anything. The power in Afghanistan is American power source. AT least it should be, most the stuff out there ran off generators.

The only thing you need is a different plug... depending where you fly from you need to get a plug converter.... I.E. Europe (don't remember exactly what kind of plug it was)

They sell all the stuff you need at the PX where you land.

Absolutely correct, huge headache for us building the bases, but if you are on an American base or living in the "American" section all the power is wired with stateside plugs. May be smart to have some surge protection just in case.

However, if you are deploying to a base that's not American or living in NATO forces quarters, better get the EU stuff, but they'll have it at the exchanges for you. If you're embedded, again, shore power is EU style, but if you're running off gens it'll be American.

This was a big issue when we were building galleys as that we were wiring for American outlets and then the Brits brought in their heater equipment...you can see where this is going.

What you're buying is really a two in one. If you're dealing with non-American power you usually are dealing with 1) the prongs don't fit (hence the adaptor) and 2) the voltage is different (US is 110V and EU is 220V). That item is both a step up (from US to EU) and step down (from EU to US). *MOST* electronic equipment nowadays ship with a transformer in the power cord (look at the big brick in your power cord and read if it can accept the different voltages). If so you should be straight with just a plug adapter.

If you are going to Afghanistan just like Press Press stated you wont need to buy that at all since the PX should have it. I just returned back in July of this year if your going to Kandahar RC South area its all 110v and outlying FOBs. Same yourself some headache and wait until you hit the ground. Be safe... OEF is not like OIF.
