Default Classic's "Butt Ugly" Mosins

This is worth a viewing just for the chuckles. I was shocked to hear our man Ben says things like "These are all pigs," and "They are all rusted but they all fire - we think." And later "We do think that most of these are functional - from a firing perspective."

But wait don't order yet. They are priced to move at $120 plus up-charges with bolts covered in rust, pitted receivers and cracked stocks. Premium options are already sold out. Looks like I have found christmas gifts for the whole family and the mailman...

I decided to roll the dice and see what ol Ben gives me. If it’s really butt ugly. It will make a good project at least.

I picked up my fill of 91/30's back when Aims and Classic had nice rust free (although common) examples for around $119. I'll pass.

Wow, maybe if I owned no Mosins. It's strange because I feel if I put one up for sale for that price and that condition, I would get no hits, but Classic is sold out already. Strange how everyone buys up all their stuff.

i wonder who's buying these things, sure when ammo was 10 or even 20 cents per round, tons of fun could be had with a cheap blaster, even if needed some elbow grease to be decent. but with ammo 40-50 cpr, i just don't see the draw, unless someone's sitting on load of ammo (but no mosins??)

If someone actually wants to sell a mosin for under 200 bucks send them my way I’d happily buy them.

they look like they came right out of a arms cache from a cave in Afghanistan

clean them up, repair the stock, add brass tacks, wipe some linseed oil on the wood, for a "battlefield pick up look" they probably have sewer pipe bores,

and add a well used / soiled tattered web sling.

So for $80 more you can get a non rusted pos, a Finnish at that.

Seems like you answered your own question.

120 isnt too bad, I think they always have "premium" and "hand pick" options on all their ads. It doesnt mean they had any in stock, its just easier to copy and paste all the basic page functions.

If there was no import mark you could definitely flip them as AFG / Vietnam bringbacks.

SSSssooooooOOOOooooo……..

This is what happens when you bubba an old WWII milsurp by cleaning off all cosmoline and letting it sit in your gunsafe/closet/nearby cave....

…..wwwWWWWOOOOOWWWWwwwww!!!...…

Anyone know where I can get a couple hundred pounds of cosmoline and can link to a youtube video on how to apply it.....

I hear the rust right now munching its way through my C&R collection....

I always thought there was a purpose for applying cosmoline other than to annoy C&R collectors and make a greasy yucky mess of everything in your house that they get next too.....

Now I need to figure out do I loose more money from lost value as the rust munches up my C&R collection or do I loose more value in the things I own getting all YUCKED UP from cosmoline getting into everything.....

Maybe if I cosmoline my house it will not deteriorate and be able to be handed down to generation after generation preserved in its original 1970's American designed housing tract style along with a safe full of Cosmoline encrusted C&R's from WWII.....

Mine just arrived from the first batch, I chose Tula. Only rust is on the corners of the reciever and front post. I’m really lucky considering. 1937 Tula in a refurb stock. Barrel shank is perfect , clear crisp serial numbers and Tula star. Muzzle is shiny , bore looks excellent.

Sounds like you scored,

SVT-40 gave me a great tip. To get rust off, use a nickel, as in a 5 cent piece. Doesn't really matter the age

Soak rusted area in a little Kroil, use the nickel to rub away the rust. It will take the rust off without damaging the surrounding bluing. Go gently and slowly and use just the edge of the nickel

worked wonders on an M44 that I had with some pretty serious rust issues

So those guys brought the crates into the country, cleaned all of the cosmoline off of the rifles, and then improperly stored them? Glad more Mosins are making their way Stateside at least

I am thinking no bolt and shredded stock for $79.99

Who really needs a mosin receiver for under $30.00

I got some really nice ones about 6 years ago with clean bore and no counterbore , when the price was $125
