Default Henry

Looking at a Henry lever action in 22 l.r. Octagon barrel.

Any comments , for shooting at paper 25 to 50 yards.

How is the accuracy

Buy it right now. Sweet little gun. Very accurate and very fun to shoot with a good trigger and really smooth action. Trust me, you will love it.

unsupported this gun gets muzzle end heavy.
I have the Golden Boy and the standard round barrel, less expensive version
The lighter, cheaper version is more fun "funner" to shoot.

It is hard to mount a scope well on the Henry rifles in order to get any accuracy.

The Henry rifles are great otherwise.

Why is it hard to mount a scope on the Henry? They have a 3/8" grooved receiver to accept mounts. They are actually pretty easy to scope.

The Henry is fun to shoot but not what I would call an accurate rifle if I am going to shoot paper.
It won’t stay with any of my CZ’s or 10/22’s

Henry sells all the scope mounts for each rifle. I have the Golden Boy with the Henry mount and a Leopold Freedom 2x7 scope.

Iffy loading procedure that requires a closed action not visible for condition verification and that involves putting a precious body part forward of the muzzle.

I have the standard H001, bought it for my son for xmas about 6-7 years ago. It's the most accurate 22 I have in the safe. I have a like new Winchester 94/22 (ca 1975) there is no comparison in build quality, the Winchester wins in every category except for one, it's not as accurate as the Henry.

I enjoy shooting 22 short out of it. I think it holds 23 rounds of 22 short. Fun little guns..

I've always loaded my Marlin 39A with the action closed, no problem. Check condition prior to loading and you are good to go.

Good point bergman. How many here have loaded .22's in tube magazines for years without a squabble? They're simple.

Henry, Winchester, et al 22 levers, Williams FP-GR peep sight is the best way to go. your mileage may vary.

I'd buy a Henry, especially for the price.

I have the Golden Boy H004 (.22) and the Big Boy H006M (.357) in octagonal barrels.

They’re a bit front-heavy, but great fun and very accurate.

(Anybody putting precious body parts forward of the muzzle to load the gun needs to limit their activities to the use of Nerf weapons.)

You do, however, need to make sure you don’t inadvertently launch the loading tube plunger/spring down-range...but that hasn’t been a problem for millions with tube loaders over multiple generations.

There are highly-competitive values for these guns available out-of-state.

I have the small game rifle 16" octagon barrel...I don't consider it heavy at all but then I'm not waking through the woods with it either... It has a Skinner peep with a fiber optic Dawson on the front and I consider it very accurate for the type of shooting I like to do with it... Shooting steel out to 50 yards... At the indoor range I post 2" shoot n c targets at 15 yards either way I'm shooting unsupported and I'm very happy with it...

I always load it with the lever open and haven't had any problems...

I shoot my 15-22 with red dot better and it wouldn't be my choice for bench shooting at 50 or 100 yards ( although the 24" barrel with Lyman peeps would be interesting) but it's maybe my favorite 22 rifle.... I got rid of a 10/22 to make room for it....

It has the large loop lever which some people don't like but I've found that the action on a 22 is so easy that I'm only really using two fingers to work it and that's at the very front of the loop so it doesn't feel any different than a small loop to me and between the large loop, octagon barrel and peep sight I think it looks great.

The only thing I don't like is the wood... It has a cheap furniture processed look kind of like a veneer. I'm not sure what kind of finish is on it but it dents very easily and I always thought walnut was a hard wood. But for the price I get it.

All in all a great addition to the stable

I have the Henry H001M round barrel in 22 magnum. I can hit golf balls at 100 yards with a 4x scope. And I’m half blind. Great rifle.

I have the Henry H001L (large loop). Super fun to shoot, especially with Aguila Colibri ammo. I'm only sorry I waited as long as I did to get one.

Wife bought me a golden boy for my birthday. I love it. Smooth action, seems plenty accurate, and it’s a beauty to look at. She went all fancy and got one of the engraved limited ones

I couldn't hit sh*t with my Golden Boy for the first year, wasted ammo.

The Leupold 2x7 scope changed that. Now it does bullet holes on top of bullet holes at 25 yards.

While I don't own one, every Henry I have handled had outstanding build quality.

You do understand the function of a hammer, which in this case is exposed...right?

H001L for the win. Large loop lever. Love mine.
I was sitting on the couch last year looking at the Henry website. My 3 year old grandson was next to me looking at the laptop screen. He said, "get it Grampy!" So, the next day I was at Sportsman's Warehouse buying one. It will be his first rifle.

Octagonal barrel is too heavy. I prefer a carbine.

I used to have a basic Henry H001.

The receiver was cast aluminum, which at time was a bit off-putting to me, I was expecting steel.

I have come around since then regarding cheap rimfires with cast aluminum frames, even bought a Heritage Rough Rider

All of my Henry’s are great. If you haven’t considered the pump model you should, that one is my favorite.
