What’s the turn around time for renewal now that they do it online. I submitted my renewal in May and haven’t heard anything. My permit expires in mid July. I was waiting for the contingent renewal email before taking the 4 hour training class. Has something changed in the process?

Turned my renewal in on 4/23. Received request for more documents on 6/6. Nothing since. It's been 57 days.

I turned mine in on 5/16. No word since except the acknowledgment and debit for the application. I turned everything in except the 4hr training.

Going back one to two years they have streamlined the process and eliminated the backlog, so apps were getting done in days or weeks, rather than months and months.

If your renewal date is coming up within two to four weeks, and your renewal was submitted at 90 days, and you've heard nothing, then it might be worth a phone call for a status. But generally they get them processed and done a couple of weeks prior to expiration. They issue your new card, tell you to destroy the old one once it expires.

If you utilize one of the online training options you can get your certificate within days, rather than waiting to book a class.

5/1 submitted, requested additional docs last week. I believe that now that someone is looking at my file and requesting docs, its being worked on and not sitting in a 'que'. So, maybe if I had all my docs in line I would have received a confirmation of pick up and would have it by now. Not sure though.

They are suggesting 90 days prior now. I am almost 60 days in and had one request for additional paperwork. I am waiting for a contact from OCSD to schedule pickup. I Am expired a couple weeks now unfortunately. So they are back logged a bit now, new automated system and all. I will post again when I pickup.

uh, my permit expired on 5/30 - so I was without for 26 days. This was self inflicted as I didn't renew until 30 prior. That was my bad! It was training dates that held me up.

Applied on 4/12 for renewal got approved on 6/6.

Still don't have a license though as I was traveling until last week and won't finish the training until next weekend.

As long as you submit your renewal BEFORE the expiration date it's a 'renewal'. Up 'till the day of.

Yes. Other than 16 hours of training vs 4, increased fees, and Livescan, is there a difference between a new issue and a renewal?

From what I gather from messages here, it's taking about 8 weeks to either get renewed or for them to ask for more documentation.

The eight-week mark for me is next week. I'll let you know what I hear (if anything). If you don't mind, please do the same.
Will do mag+1. Pretty lame that they won’t let you renew more than 3 months in advance. Then take two months to process.

I think that's the difference. For most it would be the cost - IIRC there were fees associated with the livescan. I think training for new vs renewal is more as well.

If you are renewing no need for another Livescan.

Have not heard a peep from OCSD
Fingers crossed.

Did your GC statement change from your previous one?

If you don't mind me asking, what was the nature of the addition docs?

I canít answer for slixx, but at my last renewal in 2018, they asked me for a pay stub or W2. I had the same employer since 2008 and always just submitted a letter from employer. This was the first time they asked for additional proof of employment. So, in 2020, I will be sure to include a letter from employer and a pay stub.

Good cause stayed the same. They requested additional photos showing proof that I was where I said I went, throughout the year. I did however hear that ocsd was under budget and are running things a bit tighter over there incase they get audited. Not sure how true that is.

For those who are expired or going to expire, as long as you submit renewal app before your due date youíre fine.

Recently, my OCSD CCW renewal took the detailed amount of time shown below. Everything (all necessary paperwork, including training doc) was all submitted at one time online in May.

Keep in mind that this timespan includes the 4th of July holiday period, where they may have taken an extra long weekend...
  • 2 months, 2 days
  • 9 weeks
  • 63 days
  • 1,512 hours
  • 90,720 minutes
  • 5,443,200 seconds
  • 17.26% of 2019

I sent an email to OCSD last week for a status update since I haven’t heard from them since my renewal app. They replied back that they are severely backlogged on CCW permits. I guess it’s just a wait and see now.

There seems to be something that changed from january, when I renewed, and you guys that are renewing at this time of year.

I got my renewal in about 2 weeks. It would have been less if I got an earlier training class date. Now it seems renewals are taking over 2 mos for many people.

I wonder what has changed.
