AR10 80% lower
Ok first, I want to start with the disclaimer that I DO NOT want to encourage anyone to do anything illegal (or even illegal in the eyes of a faceless federal regulator at ATF). I've been reading all of the recent postings on the letters sent to people renting out their equipment to those of us who would like to complete a receiver (I have a matched upper and lower that need machining, as well as a 1911 frame, and I have neither the tools or the knowhow to complete the job). I bought them a while back with the idea that it would be a fun project that would also teach me a bit more about the inner workings of my guns. Now I learn that I'm a dangerous sort who mustn't pay someone else to help me learn a new skill. But some of the posts also have conflicting info. At first people were saying just CNC was not ok, then selling and machining at the same location. Now it seems like everything is banned, and I'm a bit confused.
All of that to ask, does anyone have any advice (of the helpful variety)? Is there a sticky on one of the forums I've missed? Are there legal challenges in the works I should be keeping an eye on? Obvious (legal) solutions I might be missing? Is it still ok to ask around among friends who might have the tools, or is even non-commercial assistance verboten?
Thanks for any help/clarification.
