Just have all your paperwork ready. The woman in Grant was very nice too. I was visiting my brother in Bend for a fishing trip and had made my appointment a week in advance walked in at 10am last Wednesday (7/10/19). 45 minutes later I walked out with my CHL in hand.

I'll be there. Just a couple questions if you don't mind:

I am filling out the standard new application and I don't see where to put my good cause reason?

Any idea of the timeline to when we receive our response?

Thanks,
John

It's on the top of page 6. There's a section to write it in (and examples there too to give you an idea). I wrote a relatively short a letter stating my good cause on a separate page. It probably isn't necessary but it's what I did.

He said "travel in Oregon" would be enough, but I doubt there is anything wrong with going into more detail!

ďI have a CHL issued by Linn county that expires in Nov. they wonít be renewing my because they now require connections in county, not just in state. Is the county transfer a renewal or a new app? Will a Frontsight 4 Day Handgun certificate be acceptable for training? Thank you so much for doing this!!!Ē

I am in the same situation regarding Linn county.

Do you require a "mental health check" letter for the local sheriff? The Melheur county sheriff does according his his CHL packet for out of state residents of Idaho and Nevada. He doesn't issue to California residents. I don't want to drive 6 hours and not have all the appropriate paperwork. They way the Melheur application reads, it almost implies that it's a state law requirement for out of state residents.

As far as I know, Klamath and Grant counties donít require it, but Iím sure they check the databases.

You guys are awesome. Your staff travelled to Meridian Idaho to take care of us here and did a fantastic job especially considering the number of folks we had show up. Super appreciate all of you and Sheriff Palmer. You all were super professional, very nice, polite, and considerate.
Safe travels to Ca. Check your luggage for straws before departing.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office in Oregon did not require a mental health letter for my Non-Resident CHL. I had to sign a release in my application packet, for the LCSO to check the mental health databases...

It took 36 days for my Lake County Oregon Non-Resident CHL to arrive in the mail last September/ October 2018.

Just look at a map: he has to drive 3 hours to a commercial airport (Bend or Boise) before he can fly.

Do what I did: visit beautiful eastern Oregon: the Malhuer forest is lovely anytime of year. I was a walk-in, without an appointment (not the best choice, but it worked out, thanks to the wonderful staff Sheriff Palmer has).

It is an 10 hour drive from the Bay Area.

Hello Cali peeps!

The last of the renewals and new applications just went out so you should be receiving them this week sometime.

Thanks for your patience!

Remember, you are responsible to know the gun laws in Oregon when you travel through here. A good place to start is here...
