M96 Swedish Mauser question
Good morning everyone,
I came across and traded for a Swedish M96 made in 1903 last night and had a quick question. The stock disk was unlike those I have seen on other Swedes. Rather than having a disk with one screw hole in the middle and all the rifles information around it, mine has two screw holes holding in the disk - one above the other - with no information stamped on the outside of the disk. I popped it out to look at the underside, which has a date and I assume an inspector number stamped on it. Initially I had though someone had just ground off the info on the disk, but it doesn't appear to be missing any metal or altered. Can someone help explain this to me? Thanks, Tim |

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, you have a fake Swedish Mauser made in North Korea circa 1954. Purely a wall hanger. They are worth about $100 on the open market, luckily for you, I collect 1950-1959 North Korean fake rifles!
See TMB 1's response for correct info. Those are great rifles, enjoy shooting it!

I have a Swedish Mauser with a similar stock disc.
On the reverse is unit information...third company of Infantry Regiment no 22 (Värmlands Regemente), rifle no 211.

Thanks for the info guys. 10/Infanteri 24 is what mine is stamped with if memory serves.
All matching parts, bore looks brand new, I'm happy so far but only picked it up as a partial trade for another rifle I was selling. The Swedes are sweet but not really my cup of tea. I'll probably shoot the box of ammo I had for it and then flip it. |
