Default Live in SF and have guns for sale

I was wondering if anyone knows any local shops that pay pretty good money for your used guns? I have a few I'm getting rid of, need to, long story but separating from my spouse so liquidating things. Anyhow, I posted them for sale here and such but I am thinking, in the interest of time, is there a place to sell them, other than a pawn shop that will give you crap money for them?

Thanks!
Eileen

No gun stores in SF any longer, outlawed by the city. Thereís Imbert & Smithers in San Carlos, kerlys in San Jose, gun vault in Mountain View who all take and sell consignment guns.

Ugh of course they're outlawed here, smh

Are they all consignment or do they buy like direct as well, do you know? Thanks for your help!

Sell them here. You'll likely get better prices than any shop.

Go read the for sale rules and then post them at the MarketPlace.
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...splay.php?f=91

I have seen many sold in minutes if you price it right.

You donít want to sell them directly - you wonít get very much for them if they offer to buy directly

no shops pay "pretty good money" when buying, selling on consignment for you
will cost approx 20% fee of selling price to shop. Your best bet is PPT, unless you
are content with taking a loss of money to save time. Good luck and all the best.

I used to have three but downsized and now just my Kimber TLE, black. She's pretty much new too, maybe 1000 rounds. I used to shoot a lot more, and worked at a shooting range for years, but then got into motorcycles and it's hard to do both

Gave me a weird eye and I had to come clean, being from CA *sad*

So, the law changed in regards to what a CA Legal AR is right? Bullet button no longer works as legal correct?

I'm in SF. I've sold lots of things here on CG for myself and four friends of mine who are shooters but non CG folks. I have time on my hands for another couple of weeks. There's been a few of my fellow CG'ers who've helped me out through the years. I'm willing to help out a fellow Calgunner. If, you decide you want help, PM me. The basics.
  1. Taking good photos is a third of the game. Process them; exposure, saturation, blank and then black levels, fill light etc.. Post them in line with the ad. not so someone has to click on a link! Just that little difference is huge in selling things here on CG. There are instructions about how to do this elsewhere here on CG. Its easy but it will make you crazy the first time you try to do it.
  2. Write a good thorough description. A little bit of marketing savvy here helps to (the first principal of sales) 'create desire' and perhaps (the second rule of sales) 'create a sense of urgency'.
  3. Write your proposed terms, i.e. "meet for PPT at one of the following FFL's. . ." In the words of a trial attorney you want to 'frame the issues'
  4. Once a day post a quick three letter 'BTT' response to your own thread to send them 'back to the top'.
  5. Be patient, the bottom feeders come out first. But again if 'time is of the essence' here on CG even a lowball offer will be better than you'll get at a pawnshop
  6. Respond to all PM's promptly in order to keep folks interested. Maybe ignoring the bottom feeders?

I've generally had great luck selling things here.

Pawn shops will give you s**t money. Consignment in one LGS kind of sucks because they have to take them into their inventory. Then they only get seen in one LGS. If you wanted to get them out to sell them privately, you have to re DROS them (ask me how I know this) so basically it sucks. Sales are slow lately, even here in CA.

CG takes more time. So if 'time is of the essence' take what you can get. But here on CG os the best way to get the best price for them. Happy to help if you'd like help. I divorced an attorney in CA. I've been there.

stay away from south city pawn. they are only for desperados. but really I will just reiterate what everyone has said. these shops can usually pick up on your desire for a quick transaction and try to take advantage of you if you post things here for less than msrp they tend to go quick. of course higher end stuff needs a high end buyer so without details I can't give you much more guidance than that. sorry to hear about your misfortune and I hope out works out for you. any other assistance just post and I'm happy to help.

the wheelers and dealers are the Russians at city arms in Pacifica. I can't vouch for how good of a deal you'll get but they like to dicker and have the most flexibility in my experience. also I saw your rifle for sale. you may want to break up the package for a faster sale and possibly more money. very few people will want the exact same scope you haveso you'd be better served offering it separately or at least posting a separate price for rifle only. that's a nice 870 btw. perfect for this foggy climate too. shame you have to let it go.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, splitting it up. Maybe I will. I thought it's a good package (and I have a sinclair f class bipod too! forgot about that until recently) but it's a particular package.

Thanks!

NEVER bring a gun to a PAWN SHOP, they are probably worst than a used car salesman

pawn shops are for desperate people just trying to get rid of their valuables

once they know you have no sentimental value or somebody gave it to you, etc, they will almost try to get it for nothing.

and NEVER tell them how much you paid for it, they also use that against you.

I've had good dealings with City Arms in Pleasant Hill. They charge 10% for consignment plus a flat $25 display fee. Not sure if the terms in the Pacifica shop are the same. The item I consigned took several months to sell, but I was nit in a hurry. Another option...

i dealt with city arms and "uncle" many years ago and they are wheelers and dealers and Dometrie (?) can get you all twisted up but I like them and always visit them when I am down on the coast. "Uncle" did right by me but things can change over time. Still have a good impression of them if you go by. No harm in talking to them and you seem to know your stuff so i doubt they will be pulling any games on you successfully.
