Default So I bought an air rifle...what oil do I use?

So I have this bad boy on order: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...php?p=23254770

It got me thinking that I already have a 1377, a 2100 and a airsoft glock that I have never oiled.

Can I use Rem oil or CLP? Is pellet gun oil only allowed?

You should use something that is compatible with the seals used in the gun. Follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

I've always used Rem Oil in my Walther 1000 but I'm sure it's not what is called for. Either way I've not had a problem in the 5 years I've owned it and shoot it regularly.

Adding oil to the inside of the compression chamber is simply not necessary.

Don't bother.

Yes, I know, the major airgun dealers offer silicone chamber oil for sale, but it won't do anything that the grease already inside the gun isn't doing.

regular oils in the Barrel or piston chamber will combust causing damage to seals and fouling the barrel, use Silicone oil in the Piston Chamber and barrel, use high quality oil for other areas such as pivot points and trigger assembly, I use Silicone shock oil from the Hobby shop, RWS has a oil kit you can get at PA.

The paintball industry has by far the best air gun oil on the market they have a wide variety of the Dow 33 grease which is a light spreadable white grease dirt doesnt stick to it which makes it the best lubricant on the market , paintball guns shoot on high pressure air 3000 to 4500 just like air rifles, ck out the choices ANS Gear has it and paintballgear.com. some firearm oils break down rubber over time so stick with true silicone air rifle oil.

I've always used crosman oil. It seems to work well.

Be careful where lubricant is added. If more than a tiny bit of oil gets into the air system it will start 'dieseling', which means that oil is actually combusting. I had one of mine dieseling for a while and it had wayy more power and you can actually hear a little 'pop' when you fire it. It is hard on the gun, they are not meant to run that way and I had seals go out pretty quick

Just call and order from Pyramyd. Then you're assured of getting the right stuff the first time. Get some good pellets while you're at it.

I suggest you read this thread

Be careful what you put in your airgun, as it could damage the rubber seal.
