No excuses! If my old beat scion can make it on those roads anything can.

It should be a fun weekend, long range forecasts look dry and warm.

If you are interested in carpooling we may be able to find space.

I am planning to setup near the main road in a silver car (Most likely a scion XB, maybe a civic) and I will have a blue/gold "Cal" canopy.

If anyone is interested and unfamiliar with the area I can put something together on Google maps.

I have no reason to think they would be closed.

I thought they closed the gates in April or May. I usually go out to Panoche in the winter months, and I have never seen the gates closed.

FYI the Ranger is very active there, be sure no hi-caps mags and bullet buttons on ar/ak's hate to see someone lose their stuff. I been there 2 time so far in the last 2 month, both time the Ranger stop by and check all my stuff.

The ranger checked my stuff on Saturday. He was quite pleasant about it, but he had already confiscated rifles from another group.

But he had no issues with my featureless or BB ARs and standard mags are ok so long as they are used in a featureless.

I was there on sunday as well. BE WARNED, there is a spot which is "supposedly" popular that is facing the main road.
After you drive through the second main gate at the height of the hill, this spot is down to the left about a mile to a mile and a half in. People were shooting there and the bullets were skipping off the ground flying across the main road. These were good guys but didnt realize how far bullets can go, especially from an AR. NO other shooters were around, and these gents targers were facing in the exact direction of where we were.
I would hope people know if you pull off the main road to shoot, no matter how far you drive off the main road, DO NOT turn back and shoot towards the main road, always shoot away from it. A burm, or steep slope does not stop everything, and everyone makes mistakes. The ground is hard at Panoche, and a lot of bullets skip off as opposed to driving into the dirt.
We were at our spot off the main road, shooting the opposite direction from the main road, and bullets were literally raining down on us. One hit right next to our targets. Scary as ****.
The only downside to these great BLM spots are the safety issues.

was shooting there last weekend and had the rangers come by and check the guns I had out. They seem a lot more active this year than at the end of last.

Remember to stay only a cars length off the main road when you park, they said they cited a few guys near by who drove up a canyon to set up targets. I was 30 feet off the road (even though it was a well worn area I was in the wrong) and he made certain I understood he was letting me off lightly by not citing me for that.
