wrong place to post but to answer your question, frugal people will say it works just fine. if anything happens and s&w has to service your gun and they find out you are using a 9mm barrel in your 40, it will void your warranty (they are absolutely against using a 9mm barrel in your 40 slide)
people who do this swear by this method, but there's also argument that there is a very small amount of play that is almost undetectable, but can weaken your frame overtime. paying an extra $60 for a conversion barrel is worth it imo. check the s&w forums for more detail |

I have done it to my M&Ps without any issues what so ever. my 4" i used the factory barrel for my compact i used a storm lake barrel I really dont see much of a difference.
ive fired thousands or rounds through my factory 9mm barrel without any issues. well 1 wolf primer didnt ignite the first strike....
