Has Don said what the expected attendance was going to be for this class?

I have an EGW short action 700 base here if it turns out that you still need it come sunday.

Thanks for the offer Randall, I picked up a Leupold 2 piece base at the store when I was picking up my rifle. EGW says they're not gonna ship it until tomorrow. I did a basic job of just getting everything all the parts together.

Hopefully someone in San Diego can help me out getting everything properly setup? I've never even operated a bolt action rifle before.

Question is, should I just set everything up properly with the current 2 piece Leupold or should I wait until the EGW base comes in and get it done at the range with assistance...?

I can drive you up if you have a place to park near Little Italy or somewhere along the way up. I'll be driving up from Little Italy. You can probably find street parking early in the morning on a Sunday I bet.

Saturday works for me.

Yeah, I have an Audi A4 with quattro but it's not like lifted or have off road tires... in fact I think it has a sports suspension haha. I think Don said it should be fine getting in though.

If you want, I have a Leupold base with twist in rings (1") you can borrow and that way you can return those. I also have both lapping bars (1" and 30mm) if you need to borrow them. I'm out in El Cajon, just let me know. I might even have a set of Night Force bases if you need 'em.

Thanks for the offer BD, I think at this point I'm just gonna need help setting it up with the proper torque and alignment. I'll probably hit up Jicko or SDJim's place nearby since I think they have the proper tools.

Hopefully by Friday my base is in so we can just do it once.

Just to confirm, class starts at 8am?

Where in San Diego can I buy some sort rear support for the rifle? I have a bipod up front so I'm assuming I just need some sort of adjustable rear support.

Fill a sock half way full of rice.
Double it over itself and rubber band or sew it shut.

Hey... do you know how much rice costs now?! :P

I guess if the SHTF, I'll have both a rear support or a supply of food.

edit: just so everyone knows, this worked really really well and I also have an extra pair of socks to use in the field, didn't have to sow it, just made two knots and 2 socks.

If you need some help I should be available Saturday afternoon. I have levels and tourque wrenches.

As far as a rear support, as was said before, get a sock, and instead of rice, stop by Michael's Art Supplies and get a bag of the medium plastic pillow beads for about $5.00 (or maybe it was $5.00 because I had a 50% off coupon.) Fill the sock half way and double it over. You should be good to go.

Thanks for the offer to drive, but I'll be going up in my F150.

Is there still room in the class?

Would a Howa 1500 with a 1-4x20 nikko scope work? I'd love to attend, but I don't want to waste my time if the rifle can't handle it.

I seriously doubt you will like shooting past 500yds with a 4x scope.

Something more like a 3-9, 4-12 or 4-16.

Quality is more important than magnification.
A good quality 9X scope will show you more than a crappy 16X scope.

Ahhh, gotcha.

I'll have to sit this one out until I save up for some better glass then.

Thanks.

Poly beads (like the stuff they use for beanie babies) work much better. I used rice until I was warned about what happens when things get wet. But yes.. rice or beans can be had at the local market

My carpool partner just dropped out.
Anyone in the valley, downtown or the westside want to carpool?
