Already???

I vote for October anything. The last 2 Novembers have been less-than-ideal with wind and temps.

In the mean time - I think 9.25 is in order

Any date with little wind. I can stand the cold or heat but the wind just ruins the shooting.

I agree with Uber. October would be more ideal due to wind (and pumpkins!)

Regardless of date.

Darkness or Full mooness?

Need a concept for T-shirt design, something to do with Zombies.
Give it some thot.

Here you go making demands again ...

Which weekend is halloween weekend? Oct 31 is Wednesday, middle of the week. Given that most people celebrate halloween on the day-of, is the weekend preceding Oct 31 or immediately following Oct 31 "halloween weekend"

You're going to be THAT guy huh ... Everyone knows that all the halloween parties are BEFORE halloween... So let's not plan it the preceding weekend.

The weekend after has better moonlight anyways. I think this time I am going to change it up and shoot friday and help Bako cook lunch and smoke meet Saturday. That way I can socialize...

I've not been paying attention to the moons during these events.
Have most been on full or near full moon weekends?

Were there full dark SSZS events?
How did that work out for everyone?
The 1st weekend of Nov looks like no moon light.

Been trying to figure out how to make a headless pumpkin design to no avail.
probably best to Zombiefy Thanksgiving.

Too early to look at weather and wind forecasts.

I am making up some Hats with the built in LED lights for you night shooter guys. Might also be good if you find yourself face down in the sand. Pretend you are looking for brass

Hmmm, took a bit to figure out what you were doing.
At first I thought gardening but there were no shovels or rakes.

Then it hit me, there have been a few THOT's in my life that would have benefited from a series of vaccinations, a couple more feral ones would need booster shots for sure.

I think I could make some of these t-shirts.

Re the bolded; If any of you attended the first one you will recall how hot it was and the state we were in on Sunday. I randomly asked a number of members of all ages and the common response was they felt like all of their energy had been drained out of them due to the 110-115 degree temp. As a matter of fact, one of the members fell ill during the Sat. Safety Briefing and was assisted to a RV to rest in the A/C controlled trailer for an hour. Ironically, he was the one designated to call 911 if there had been an emergency during the event.

An after event debriefing amongst those involved in the organization of the event (me included as the RSO), concluded we would not hold the Zombie Shoot in the summer in the future due to the heat. That is why we now have the March-April and October-November format.

Take into consideration, when deciding on a summer date, that there will be families in attendance with their children. The heat could be detrimental to them and if pregnant women are in attendance, them too. Knowing how I felt during that first event (I drank 12 bottled waters but did not have to use the bathroom until 9pm Sat. night. That's when I realized how dehydrated I was tho I felt ok [not on Sunday tho] Admittedly I was probably the oldest (late 50s), but I was so wiped out after loading my ammo and other gear into my truck that I left my bowling pins out on the range. I believed if I had attempted to retrieve them I would have passed out and someone would have had to call 911.

BTW, I'm in for the fall one whenever it is. Also, in the past, I've had to rent a RV, which is a big expense. My son and his wife just bought a RV trailer last week. Not only does this result in a smaller overall expenditure for the Zombie Shoot, my wife and I don't have to buy a RV anymore; we have my son's to borrow for free.

Yeah, that was me. And it was hotter than that.
.....I'm in much better shape these days.....
Good point on the temps.
But yeah, it will be HOT
You raise an excellent point.
But when else to have the quarter ?
June ??? Better hurry up if we don't want hot.
August, just as hot.
September...getting too close to the real 9.5 (and still hot).

Looking at average and peak temps, July does peak a lot hotter than either June or August.

So here is a crazy idea...someplace in Nevada (with obvious benefits)? Up north, Reno area maybe?
ETA: Except large bon fire camp fires may not be as well appreciated as they are in the desert.

So I have a (internet) acquaintance who owns some land up near Reno which is perfect for shooting and camping. If you're all serious about this, I'll reach out to him to see if he's up for allowing usage. FYI He's the guy (user nvgeologist) who supplied a handful of steel community targets to the past few SSZS's. Hell, if it's the right weekend (in late July or August), maybe I'll make the drive up.

I'm in - should we make a separate unofficial thread?

You know, the SSZShoots share a lineage with the OG "OLL / Area52/53" shoots that took place in NV
