Post your Scoped 50 Yard Targets
Try to measure group spread center to center.
If two .22 holes just touch that is .022 (thousands) of inch spread. Put them up with type of rifle. I want to see if any of your 10/22s can shoot or just drain your bank account |

Cooper .22lr in target stock from rest 50 yards

The numbers on the left are the number of rounds fired in that group. The numbers on right are the smallest and biggest spread The ammo used Elley black box, I was tuning the rifle starting at the bottom and working up. The group gets tighter because I am tuning for the ammo. |

5 shots from Ruger 10-22 with Volquartzen barrel. That's outside to outside as best as I could estimate. Shot with SK Std Plus.

No sweat. The THM Tesnsion barrel shoots well with the more budget oriented SK and Wolf (same stuff really) as the Lapua, Eley and RWS that I have tried. I thought I would try a tuner but realized that the barrels construction would negate any effect it would have. Heck, I even have a neoprene pressure pad at the end of the stock. The inner barrel seems to have been tuned through tension and do their own thing regardless of exterior pressure on it. I certainly would have to rethink things if I went to a conventional barrel. It's only downfall, it's reduced weight. It actually bounces around with each shot. As far as the groups, 99% of the time, they stay under a 3/8" unless a little breeze comes by and man is that frustrating. Definitely learning to pay attention to what the wind is doing with that little 40 grain bullet.
The optic is a mueller 8-32x40 target reticle. For what I am doing, the price was right and it works for me. Thanks for the compliments!

It's the top rifle. Lower is my Win 52A. Jon The Win is fickle what it likes. The Springfield, on the other hand, will shoot what ever I put in it with almost identical results. Last edited by musketjon; 05-09-2015 at 5:48 PM.. |

Wow. Nice shooting and very accurate rifles. Against my better judgment, here's what I've done so far.
Mine is a Chevy, and I shot 10 shots as I was sighting in a new setup with bulk ammo. 10/22, kidd two stage trigger. That's a one inch dot, so nowhere near what you guys are doing.

Grid is 1/4", outer circle is 2" diameter. Testing ammo last weekend after adding a spring loaded 3.5 lb pressure pad about midway up the barrel to see the effect on groups. 50 yards, ~6mph cross wind. First 4 targets are various high velocity bulk (18 year old PMC Zapper - no longer made,Winchester white box, CCI AR Tactical, CCI Mini-Mag round nose) the rest are standard velocity target grade (Norma TAC-22, Geco Semi-Auto, CCI Standard Velocity), except the last 2, which are Norma Match 22. I'm happy with the results, but will be tweaking the pressure to fine tune.
I have to shoot more groups of each ammo to see what each could do, but I was really only testing the pressure pad on this outing. Using OnTarget to measure: 1 – 0.557”, 2 – 0.454”, 3 – 0.592”, 4 – 0.656”, 5 – 0.356”, 6 – 0.378”, 7 – 0.351”, 8 – 0.480”, 9 – 0.506”, 10 – 0.550”, 11 – 0.307”, 12 – 0.367”. I used the software’s pre-set 0.224” diameter because I couldn’t figure out how to used the custom feature with more than one ammo on a target, so not sure how that affects the center to center calcs. Ruger 10/22, older Hogue stock, 18" stainless Green Mountain barrel, stock bolt re-worked by Que, trigger work, internal polishing and bedding done by me. All components besides the barrel, stock, Power Customs extra power hammer spring, and mag release are standard Ruger components. Shot off ebay UTG bipod and rear bag, Bushnell Trophy 6-18x40 AO scope mounted on $7 Monstrum Picatinny Rail Mount from Amazon. Last edited by RawHP; 04-05-2015 at 10:08 AM.. |
