Nice lookin Carbine you got there.
They are quite a bit of fun to shoot, easy handling and kid friendly. Mine is also an Inland and in the 5.3 million serial # range. Here she is relaxing on a blanket.

A unusual M-1 carbine made by Howa Machinery Company Ltd for Thailand. The crest is the royal Thai crest.
A few of it's friends.. For M-1 carbine mag collectors.

That's pretty rare in this country. I've read about them but never saw one before. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Here are mine. All are IBM, one of them is all correct, another one has the correct date barrel and some correct parts (both are rebuilds though, I think, it's just that the previous owner of the correct one likely spent some time getting the correct parts), and the third one... well, it's a shooter. The previous owner saw fit to "improve" it a lot. The Lyman sight does work pretty well though.

You are all very bad people. Thus far, I have resisted buying an M1 as I had to have my M1 Garand first. Bought a Service Special HRA a few years ago, thought I was done with rifles but seeing all of your beauties is making me want one pretty badly. Bad, bad Calgunners, terrible influence on me.

Underwood (top) and QHMC (bottom) Inland (top) and Saginaw S'G' (bottom) 3 different IBM carbines Underwood Standard Products Inland (Bavaria Forestry Police) Inland (6.33 million serial number) Winchester (CMP, spring tube receiver) IBM (CMP, Auto-Ordnance subcontract receiver) First and second-run Inland M1A1 carbines The M1 Carbine was the first real firearm I ever touched, and it has been one of my favorites ever since. My father got one of the $20 DCM (forerunner of the CMP) carbines that were sold to NRA members in 1963. He kept it in a GI canvas case in his closet but he never shot it. When I was a boy I would sneak it out of the closet and handle it. Finally on Father's Day 2008 I took him to a range in southern Washington state so he could shoot it for the first time. Since I have a gun safe and he doesn't we keep his carbine in my safe. That same $20 M1 Carbine I secretly fondled as a boy is currently in my safe, still in the same GI canvas case. |

For those who are contemplating getting one - go for it! They are pleasant shooters and like with the Garand, you smile while you're shooting. What's not to love about that?
Here's my M1 carbine. |

My M1 carbines are both post war models and thus unworthy of all the greatness posted here.
My IJ is a fine shooter though as well as quite a looker. As mentioned above, anyone who can shoulder a rifle can easily manage an M1c. Such a fun and soft shooting little gun. Apples and oranges from the mighty Grand and a lot less little parts too. |

My M!
I bought this M1 about 3 months ago on a wim and because it was a good deal. I don't know much about it. I posted it because the heat shield makes it different than all the others on the thread. I acquired the pouch ( I have 3) at a different time and it is also different than the ones posted. inside it has the following inscription. top line " 74-P-142-705" next line " POCKET MAGAZINE" NEXT LINE " CARBINE. 30-ROUND" last line " J.Q.M.D. 1950". I would appreciate any info. Thanks

Nice. I always thought they were ugly little buggers... Until a little while ago. Now I want one. But would have to get a lame 10 rounder insteD of GI mag... Should've had some foresight and bought a bunch along time ago... Like that ad for a pack of 18

This is not mine, unfortunately. Pictures from an auction. Several carbine manufacturers made special presentation carbines with fancy wood and polished blued finish for company executives.

crappy pic of my USGI M-1 Carbine.
Bought in back in 1993 (cash & carry at the Great Western Gun Show in Pomona) with ten 15 round magazines, five 30 round magazines, and 5400 rounds of Lake City .30Carbine ammo on stripper clips/bandoleers for $600. Haven't shot it in over a decade, down to two ammo cans (2160 rounds) of Lake City. Underwood M-1 Carbine (12-43 barrel date stamp) |
