I don’t know how old your son is,or how muscular he is but that 22 weighs
9lbs 12oz. Mine was accurate and looked cool as hell but that’s where it all
stops.

He is 12. More baby fat than muscle but I'm working on it with him. 5'8" and 197.

It is a very heavy gun. He likes WWII era stuff so that is more of a look at type of gun than a shooter. I doubt it will be shot much. He prefers machine guns.

I bought one of those back when they first came out. Got the wooden crate and everything and the gun is really nice - full-size and quite heavy. As with the GSG-522 that came before it, there is a LOT one can do to improve the trigger action if desired. The only thing I didn't like is the cost of spare mags and they don't seem to have gotten any cheaper. However, the gun is a beast, with authentic wood stock and at least gives someone a bit of historical experience when handling and shooting. The original was also quite heavy.

Another "historical" .22LR that costs a lot less but is just as fun to play with is the Chiappa/Citadel M1-22 carbine, both with wood stock and black polymer. I have both. They cost me around $200 each and the wood stock is nearly identical to an original. The only reason I don't think it's exact is because when I tried to fit the action into a Paratrooper folding stock it wouldn't fit.

Anyway, the M1-22 is super fun to shoot, super-light, and has a built in .22 scope rail on the receiver. It will accept the same accessories as an original. Magazines are only 10 shot, but they're inexpensive yet quite sturdy and reliable.

Saw two of the M1-22 carbines at a local gun shop. They looked interesting and I was tempted. Then I remembered I really don't need one. Maybe someday.

The STG 44 is pretty fun to shoot. Very accurate. I'm getting an MP40 in 22lr too as well pretty soon. Can't wait.
