The first one takes you to the "Concealed Carry Discussion" forum and the 2nd one takes you to "How CA Laws Apply to/Affect Me" forum. It was in one of those forums that your issue was addressed. (Nope, I'm not going thru the threads in both of them to find it for you. But it was in the past month or two.)

^ Usually between 2 weeks to a month after doing your interview and about the same after doing your prints.

Got my approval in 4 days. 6 weeks for livescan and 7 weeks sitting on the Lieutenant's and Sheriff's desk for review and signature. Picked up my permit on 12/28/2014.

I posted the same question way back in this thread and I think that it was suggested to take the class prior to the interview because it showed you were serious and also proved your competency with a weapon. If you're unsure of whether or not your good cause is going to pass you might wait and save the money though. If you're unsure of your good cause statement, call the CCW division of PSCO and discuss it with them. They helped me craft mine over the phone so I was fairly certain by the time I interviewed that I would be approved.
Good Luck!

Just scheduled my appointment, earliest date available was July 9th, so roughly a 5-month waiting list for those who may be curious. I'd suggest doing what I did, and set an appointment now, and use the ample amount of time to work on your CCW course and handgun qualifications, practice shooting, and figure out your good-cause statement, if you haven't already!

SSE's no longer allowed on Placer Permits
Just got off the phone with PCSO and it has been confirmed that guns purchased via SSE will no longer be allowed on Placer County permits. Those guns already listed and approved will be allowed until your renewal date at which time they will need to be removed. Looks like it's time to start the consign and re DROS process as described in the San Bernardino thread

I can confirm this to be true for 2 separate SSE recent applicants I have spoke to. Both of these recent applicants SSE's DROS had multiple calibers listed on them in both 9mm and .25acp. It is not a problem with Placers minimum caliber restriction but the fact that the gun was DROS'ed as an SSE. I also know of dozens SSE guns currently on Placer permits. Their will soon be many unhappy renewal applicants.

Wanting to get my CCW in Placer Co. In prep, I'm reading through here, learning what I can. One big hurdle will be GC. Saw some CG'ers have used physical limitations/disabilities as a way to show Good Cause. Anyone find out if that has been successful?

Hi guys. Thanks for all the great information regarding Placer CCW's.
Quick question: I just turned in my application at the Tahoe Station as I live in the Tahoe Basin. Wondering if anyone has experience with the interview process up in this neck of the woods? Was told they would be contacting me soon for the interview...hoping some members have gone through the process up here with any words of wisdom. Thanks! |

Fyi, Placer made a change to their FAQ today, clarifying the policy related to carrying at businesses selling alcohol.

^^ I would carry in liquor stores as I would be purchasing not consuming. I hope that was the intention of the wording.

This one http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=951274
Basically this: - Pawn your gun - when you repay the loan and want to get your gun back, it must by law be DROSd to you. It will be DROSd in the configuration it is in when you pawn it, namely semi auto and with the current caliber. Pawn redemption is exempt from roster just like a PPT. Net effect: DOJ record of your DROS will no longer show a single shot pistol in an incorrect caliber (if applicable). |

Do they know what you're doing? Or are they going to put it out on the shelf?

They know what's going on. SkyHawk did the research and Dennis is the only FFL pawn in the area. He's already been through the process with others and from what he told me and from what I have heard from others hear, it works and satisfies PSCO. 20 day pawn and 10 day DROS. Total cost is $44, $19 for the pawn and $25 for DROS. Oh, no it doesn't go out on the shelf.

I just got my updated permit in the mail with a whole new lineup of pistols listed: G26, G19, G41 - all of them Gen 4. Not a problem listing them, but the most recent DROS for these pistols was not SSE either.
It took about 10 days to get the permit after visiting the Sheriff's office for the modification. |

I do agree that he is a really nice guy, just take anything he may say with a grain of salt. He refused to accept my permit as a second form of identification as it was not allowed by the DOJ. When I picked up he tried convincing me that every hand gun would be falling off of the roster on 01/01/2016

Wow that is lame that SSEd handguns will be removed upon renewal of a CCW.
So what other options are there besides pawning? Can simone DROS their SSEd handguns to someone else and then DROS them back to remove the SSE classification? And also arent you supposed to notify PCSO if you DROS/sell one of your CCW guns? Is that why people are Pawning them? To not DROS them to someone else but only back to themselves? And what about transferring the SSEd guns to a wife/parent/grandparent and then transferring them back? Last edited by ben_r_; 04-15-2015 at 8:37 AM.. |

Just got off the phone with PCSO and the gentleman I spoke to just suggested going through the DOJ process to transfer the SSEd guns to a wife/parent/grandparent for the $19 fee for as many firearms as you like and no FFL required and then transfer them back. Here is a link to the form: LINK
$38 for the two transfers and no waiting periods or FFL needed sounds like a much better deal than the pawn or DROSing to someone else and then back. He also said the transfers would need to be done before it was time for renewal. Last edited by ben_r_; 04-15-2015 at 8:36 AM.. |

Does a person have to wait for approval prior to getting the live scan? PCS suggests emailing, faxing or dropping off at the department after printing their name on top of the scan. Just thinking it would speed things up getting it done prior to the interview...

You mean the initial interview? I wouldnt until you get the go ahead from the interview. Might be a waste of money if they tell you they dont think youll get approved. In fact thats what they tell you too. To wait until after the first interview.
