Guys, look, this sounds good on paper, but in reality, it's never going to work. You're talking about people all over CA. Over a territory that is vast. Next year the ammo ban is likely to pass making record keeping and licensure mandatory and even more onerous. This is a major operation and will require huge amounts of paperwork and planning. Insurance, sales tax, employees, operating costs. At a very minimum we need to see what happens next year with the ammo sales ban and what will be required to even sell ammo in CA. Once that happens, we may want to work with already established FFL's to assist in the sales of ammunition (for a profit BTW) by those FFL's. But trying to do this on our own and as a non-profit volunteer operation is just not going to work.

I think this is going a bit overboard, as far as creating an LLC/Co-Op. We all very much appreciate your effort in organizing, but honestly, I see this getting very out of hand very quickly, and as you said, the paperwork may turn into a full-time job that no one gets paid for, and no one really wants to do. I also think it would be foolish to wait around for a possible ban or any restrictions, so I believe we should be buying now.
I think the best, safest, most logistically simple way to do this is through group buys. 500 buyers at 10,000 rounds a piece is a 5 million round order. Maybe set a minimum round count per calgunner. There are over 130,000 people registered to calguns, and I'm sure most people interested in a group buy will find at least 1 family member or friend to put in with them, which could bump the figures, depending. Maybe we can buy more and sell remainders to local shops to assist in the size of our orders. I'm sure at least SOME of them would love to have a full shelf of ammo. They could even jump in on the group buy. If a shop were to place an order, I'm sure they'll be buying more than Average Joe, which again, could bump the figures. 500 calgunners+family and friends+LGS's could be a fairly large order. The real nightmare will be distribution. Once the Main Man gets the order for millions and millions of rounds, he then needs to distribute them all over the state to our starving firearms. Great idea. Now to plan and execute. |

Im in for San Jose. Why not piggy back off some local gun/ranges for delivery. If we pick a day/weekend, people who sign up for the group buy will need to pick up their bounty on a specific date. Everything that is left over will go to the gun shop/range at the same price...which is still a deal/incentive for the gun shop.
The entire bulk purchase should be subdivided (but not limited to) Northern CA, Central CA, Southern CA...set up a "district" distribution hub in each region. Then move the pallets of ammo to each designated/participating gun shop in each of the regions. With enough lead time, the local gun shops' licence should be utalized for the purchase...the Calgunners bring the capital, thus minimizing the risk for the store owners. To be honest, this shouldn't even show up on the DOJ's radar unless an individual buys a huge amount. All sales will need to be rung through each local gun shop...or the DOJ will get involved. But, this will side step the licencing and permit issue. Still, as mentioned before by previous posts, detailed accounting, a suspension bank account and consent from gun shops/ranges will be needed. It should be agreed that whoever does the leg work for this should be fairly compensated for their time as this will be a huge undertaking. |

Warehouse in Pomona
I have a business in Pomona, and I could do 10,000 a quarter. I can't shot that much, but I can purchase that much. What would be the price per round average so that we can let people know what the commitment cost would be for an individual.
Thanks, Frank. |

If multi-billion dollar companies like Walmart can't get ammo what makes you think a few million dollar co-op would be able to get it? There are huge expenses in running a non profit co-op, I don't think the "members" would see as much cost savings as you may think.

The co-op would pay more per round than WM, thus would be the preferential buyer in the current environment. For example: how much has Walmart's ammo pricing changed in this current environment? |

Make sure to name drop co op and non profit. Might be different rules if it is not considered commercial.
Oh yeah, if there is a list I'm interested. 556/223 and 22lr user. Thanks |

Other stores are getting some too. I stumbled on some at Dick's sporting goods the other day. They had a three box .233 limit... which is probably why I was able to buy any. The internet sellers are getting it too. They just want a $1 per round or more... |

OK everyone stand by.
I received enough PM responses and have spoken with people that have enough horse power to help make this happen. 92% of respondants want in. I am moving forward with the research planning and implementation. As soon as we have a data base and order process set up we will ask for quantities and calibers from the group, go out to bid and post prices. We will then take orders. I have no more details at this time as you can imagine in this coming legislative session there will be more hurdles to overcome. I am confident that we will. I will be back on when I have more than air to share with you. Thanks for your time and input. Stuart |
