S&W Model 696-1, a 3" L-Frame 5-shot .44 Special produced for +/- 5 years in the first decade of the 21st Century.

This one was purchased sight unseen from a gentleman in one of the Carolinas, and made a stop at Actions by T/Teddy Jacobson in Sugar Land, TX before landing here in CA. Mr. Jacobson before he retired was a highly-regarded gunsmith by LE.

I have the 696 "no dash" - was completely unaware Smith offered such a gun until I asked a LGS if they had any "short barreled 44 Specials". Ended up with the 696 and a 1970's made Charter Arms Bulldog as a result. Bit of a contrast in weight and durability.

I put K frame service stocks on it with a Tyler type T grip.

Newly acquired 60-7 into my stable. Bought it originally with the Pachmayr "Gripper" grips and ended up going with the Desantis Clip Grip. Thanks to everyone in the previous post about grips for the J-frame.

NICE!

Here's my '52 vintage Model of 1950 Target. Not quite in as nice shape as yours though.

Nice. I have a well used stainless model 645, it was my first pistol, lots of miles/rounds and rarely shoot it now, but still love having it. When guns were guns! (Big, shiny and heavy)

Nope. Your front strap checkering looks nice. Mine looks like Stevie Wonder cut it with a rusty butter knife.

I’m sure it’s still a ton of fun to shoot! I have yet to shoot mine. I’ll probably mainly use my 1066 for range time.

5" 610:

Carried it quite a bit and shot it even more:

I still shoot it a lot but don't carry it as often. Nowadays it plays prop for other pics:

New to me 19-3. Why is it gun manufacturers don’t make bluing like they did in the old days?

It's not the bluing, it's the prep. Polishing = time, and time = $$$.

There are places that will restore an old skool finish but it is pricey and reduces collector value, if that's your thing.
