Default Scope recommendations for .243

Picked up a Howa in .243 for coyotes. Donít anticipate taking shots over 300 yards.

https://www.sportsmans.com/shooting/...rifle/p/p53487

Good scope under $250? Iíve been looking at leupold, Nikon and vortex. 3x9 or 4x12? Objective and reticle?

This any good?

Thanks

I’m Not a fan of the predator reticle. When you want to punch paper at 400 or 500 yards it’s useless
If it’s more of a long range than I’d go 4-12. 300 yards for 243 is nothing
Try to step up to viper or monarch or vx3 if you can.
Here is a monarch 2.5-10 with mil dot for 215$

Yes it will work, go with the 3-9x40, low rings. If your have the skills to finish the bolt, receiver, or otherwise any mating surfaces, for the bolt and the bolt handle, do so. Use burnishing stones and crocus cloth, a fine file if necessary, inspect and remove any burs, sharp edges, and plane the flat mating surfaces.

Most importantly, mount the scope per the specifications, pay attention to the torque, and sequence.

For 300 yards and under with a .243 buy any scope you like with a plain duplex reticle, then look up using whatís called ďmaximum point blank rangeĒ for your hunting.

Iíd take a hard look at the Vortex Diamondback 4-12 in your price range.

I prefer a basic Leupold with a 3-9x40 and duplex reticle. A basic used VX1 or the new VX Freedom scopes can be purchased right around $200-$225. I've purchased several of the new VX Freedom scopes and really like the larger adjustment nob as you can easily make adjustments with gloves on. Also, I've been told that the glass on the new Freedom scope is more similar to the VX2 rather the VX1, but I think VX1's are perfectly fine. I also like the Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 or 4-12x40, but the Leupold's eye relief better suits me.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Picked up a vortex diamondback 3x9x40 with dead hold bdc and a pair of 10x42 binos. Warne rings and base and a sling should make for a nice coyote/deer gun.
