Default Leupold CDS

Anyone used these? Do they live up to the hype?

Yes, the factory ones are pretty damn close on three of my .223/5.56 models. Been meaning to get a set for my .17 hmr.

I hear when you get custom ones made they will even calculate for elevation and your personal load.

For hunting big game I prefer a duplex reticle sighted in 2.75" high at 100 yards and a non-AO scope. Always a Leupold and not a 50mm lens. Mount it low on a typical hunting rifle.

A squirrel shooter or target/fun rifle then maybe. But I still prefer a fine cross-hair with 1/8th min dot on my varmint rifles.

The above has worked well for me since the 1960's and I have tried others but keep coming back to this as it just plain works.

Intended for a .300 winmag bolt and Rem R25 (.308 style AR10) rifles if they are actually what they promise. Tried high end tactical turret glass and am not getting the hang of it. Tired of trying.

Yes, I have been using them for several years with excellent results. I had an old VX2 and sent it in to Leupold and for $165 they replaced all internals and glass and set the CDS dial from 200-750 yards. I highly recommend it.

Yes they work as long you provide the correct info to them.

I would play with this before you buy anything new. Worked for me and I’m no Swagger.

newb question here-- how exactly does it work? If using factory ammo , say .308 168 gr FGMM, can you just tell Leupold that round you're using and the barrel length of your rifle?

Or do you send them Muzzle velocity, barrel length, etc-- and they just mail you back a ballistic dial for your scope?

I've been looking at the Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x for a long time now for my simple Rem 700 AAC-- could I get a dial made for that?

Thanks

Here's the information they request: https://www.leupold.com/service-supp...cds-dial-order

You can get all the info (BA, Velocity, etc) from the manuf's website.
