Default Maverick project complete

I picked up this slightly used Maverick 88 from a friend a few months back after doing some work for him. Had a 28" barrel that I tried to sell so I could purchase an 18.5" barrel. I was never going to hunt or shoot clays with it. After unsuccessfully trying to sell it I just said screw it and cut the barrel, cold blued it and had a bead installed. Something about the ribbed barrel I like. Its right at 19" and it balances well.

I have not shot it yet, I am waiting to get another gun out of jail this week and take both out at the same time. I will post results once I do shoot it. I expect it to pattern like the other mossbergs I have in the stable, but it could open up faster because it pretty much does not have any choke and is at the mercy of the diameter of the barrel where I cut it. We wil see

It was the birchwood casey cold blue. Bought it at Big 5 for about $6. It was real easy to use followed the directions and applied a few coats. I didn't need to blue the whole gun, just up around the muzzle , part of the rib and on the mag tube.

Had a chance to shoot it today. It felt much smoother to operate than my other Mossbergs. Patterns were good out to 20 yards with 00 Remington 2 3/4 buckshot, right about where the spread should be. I found the rib even on the shorter barrel was very useful in sight alignment, very happy with the final results.
