Default Do I need to wait 10 days again if Ruger replaced my firearm?

I recently purchased a Ruger SR22 pistol but it had a crooked slide

Anyways Ruger was very good and sent me a new one to my local turners. Here's the problem, I have a shoot on the 8th which is 10 days from today (the day it showed up at the store). I heard from one employee yesterday that I did not need to wait the 10 days again as the manufacturer can change my serial number without re-registration. Today when they called to let me know it had arrived they said I would have to wait the 10 days again and pay the 30 dollars again to re-register it with California? Does anyone know for a fact which one it is? I don't trust these Turners guys as most of them don't seem to know squat... I hope I can just pick it up and take it with me Friday morning as I bought it months ago and still haven't had a chance to shoot either the new or old one...

Thanks
Daaave

If the new one has a different serial number you'll have to dros and wait the 10 days. If they destroyed the original and used the same serial you can pick it up immediatel, but they could have sent it directly to you. Since they sent it to your FFL I'm guessing its a new number.

Yeah if the serial didn't change there shouldn't be a reason to do the DROS again.

Almost no manufacturer will do that because the paperwork necessary for transferring a serial number between firearms. If they did give you a new frame, you will have to go through the DROS processing (including paying the fee).

When I sent my Mossberg 930spx direct to Mossberg for warranty work, they replaced my shotgun with another new one. Sent back a new 930SPX direct to me and a packing list stating original serial number was replaced with new serial #. Maybe long guns don't apply to have be re-dros until long gun registration begins. So I'm guessing, since handguns s/n are registered, you have to re-dros it.

I am in the same predicament with another manufacturer. However, they are paying for my DROS.

I went through this with Taurus just last month. Original firearm (20 yrs old) had a crack in the frame. They agreed to send me a replacement, great lifetime warranty btw, all through my FFL. New serial number = new dros. Nothing but Great things to say about Taurus customer service...."and Carry on." That's what every rep said to me at the conclusion of our conversations.

If you send it in yourself, the replacement goes directly to you. If you send it via FFL, its as if you purchased a new one for $0.

If Ruger sent a new gun to your FFL, before yours was returned, the firearm will have a different serial number. They won't take the chance two guns with the same serial number are floating around. If they have the original firearm in plant to destroy they are sure it is a done deal. You will be waiting.

I'm betting you'd have a very difficult time convincing the FFL to just hand you a handgun. Every firearm that goes through an FFL's books in CA must be disposed of through the DROS process when going to a non-licensee.

Just saying.

That is true in most States, but not in California.

Yeah went in to Turners today... had to pay my fees and wait until AFTER my shoot! Oh well. I will be emailing Ruger and asking for a reimbursement, I assume they'll do it because their service so far has been outstanding. They even called me to confirm I received their email and ask where I'd like it sent (including calling the store and getting the FFL and everything). If Only I didn't wait 2 weeks from originally receiving it to sending it in...
