Shooting gloves
I bought these gloves for working in the yard and I found my old set (same gloves). Think they would make good shooting gloves? I would need to cut the trigger finger though.

I'd say to try them dry and see of they give you a good grip on all your gunstocks, then soak it in water and see if it still works well. I like to have all the fingers off of shooting gloves.

What are the gloves being used for?

I was asking because shooting gloves get very specific. I use a thick glove on the support hand for High Power. But it sounded like you guys were just looking for a basic pair of gloves to wear on both hands, and I didn't know what for.
The ones pictured won't do much for protecting the support hand from the sling and sling swivel, so I was kind of guessing you just wanted something to wear for general protection (and maybe grip?). I've got a pair of Hatch Elite Marksman gloves that I keep in my range cart, but I only wear those for when my hands are cold and I'm waiting for my relay. I rarely use them while shooting because I need the feel of the rifle against my hands/fingers with my shooting hand. But if anyone is looking for a pair of gloves just to wear for 'field' shooting, the Hatch Elite Marksman gloves are good. Thin and form fitting to the hand so you can actually handle small objects (i.e. ammo) without any problems.

They're kind of a compromise that serves several purposes. A few Prec / Tac shooters I know use a highpower shooting mitt on their weak hand to use conventionally when position shooting and also as a butt bag per se in prone. In conjunction they use a glove on the shooting hand, especially with a thumbhole stock (AICS) to absorb the pulse arounf the thumb web.
I despise carrying too much gear so I wear a pair of fingerless rock climbing gloves which have double leather in all the right places. They give me the feel I need and the padding I need as well without the bulk. I get a little more beating on my weak hand slung up than I would with a regular mitt but we don't shoot enough in kneeling or sitting in most matches for it to bother me. |

I am looking for gloves similar to what Timberwolf uses but I bought an extra pair of these and just wondered if they would work. I guess I have an excse to get over to Sports Authority.

I think those are mine or d**n close. Anyway you'll probably need to trim the trigger ginger back some (at least I did). If you do make sure and take them to a shoe shop and have them resew the seams.

NIKE Football Gloves w/ tip trimmed off the RH Index/Trigger Finger
FWIW: Honestly, only had these laying around, but they work great with the slightly tacky palm/finger material/area. Needed them, it was VERY COLD at WEGC that day, Snowed the previous night Have a good one, F.T.K. Last edited by Spdjunkie; 09-21-2007 at 8:48 PM.. |

I definitely need to order a set of shooting gloves. I noticed this weekend it was really hard to keep my Savage steady. I could feel my heartbeat in my right hand and see the reticle jump to the beat. Gotta place my order but I wanted to try them on first
