That is just the way they do things. Even though it may be the closest LGS to me, I avoid it for transfers or new purchases because they do take forever and they are lock nazis. And they wont transfer without a mag even if you are exempt from SHD.

I like going to Rocklin Armory, that is where Terry is now. Super fast and friendly over there - I did one this morning. And they keep getting some awesome consignments.

Seen there today:
G41 MOS w/ gray frame looks bnib
Ruger MkIV Competition (~$800)
SW Shield 45 w/trij HD (~$800)
Ruger Mk1 incredibly clean (~$600)
Hk VP9 w/Trij HD
SW PC1911
Diamondback DB380
Beretta 32 Tomcat stainless
Colt Gold Cup Trophy 22lr (~$850)

Some other cool stuff

Sportsman's warehouse is pretty quick for buying a new gun and for picking up a gun

takes about 20 minutes to buy a gun and about 10 minutes to pick it up

Not sure where you guys are located in Sac. I've bought a lot of my guns at River City Gun Exchange on Fruitridge and 99. It's a little out of my way too, but they are super busy there all the time, and so are really fast and efficient about transfers.

Most of their staff are active or retired LEOs and they treat everyone the same, young, old, male, female. They are really efficient, so they seem a little brusque sometimes, but they aren't jerks at all.

They are REALLY super busy on Tuesdays and Saturdays (closed Sunday and Monday). I try to go on Thursdays around 2, when they have time to talk to me.

For night and weekend transfers, I'd go to The Gun Range at Watt and 80. They are also busy but really efficient and will get you in and out ASAP. Also, they are open 7 days and until late in the evening so if you work MF 8-5, you can still get it done. I like their attitude, friendly but business-like.

Attitude counts for a lot with me.

I was just in there yesterday, as the seller on a PPT. It took 45 minutes and there wasn't a single other customer in the shop. Couldn't believe it.

Turns out they changed ownership in Aug 2017 and are doing things soooo carefully that this is how long it now takes. Double/triple check, those kind of things. Can't say I'd recommend them for a transfer any time soon

NorCal Gun Vault just seems to want to inconvenience customers.

I did a PPT there last year, my address on my license isn't correct so I always take in car registration and the brown change of address along with my CCW. According to the counter person and some lady who said she was the manager, my CCW was acceptable but vehicle registration nor a brown change of address were good enough.

When I picked the gun up they made me go on the computer and do a change of address, but because of how the online form works (DMV wants your current address not an old one) they had me print out the form change my address from my current address to my current address.

Just jailed a nice sig P238 from Terry at Rocklin Armory. Damn quick! A lot of choices on weapons, either new or consignment. Highly recommend!

I was there about a week ago, on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, and they had a 10% off sale. I bought a Nighthawk Custom GRP Recon from them. The Owner, who was a nice fella, came out and we exchanged in pleasant conversation.

Went in this place about six months ago. Nice shop, friendly staff. Prices were high as I’d expect for an LGS or most retail in the area. Bought a box of ammo and left.

For my money Rocklin Armory is GTG for PPT and purchases. I’ve done maybe six PPT without hassle and bought two new handguns as well since they opened. Always quick with paperwork and helpful.
