Default First time at Spenceville range

Made it out to the Spenceville range yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find it not too busy on a Wednesday afternoon. It's also smaller than I expected. When I got there, I found only one other group on the far right picnic table shooting rifles. I set up on the far left picnic table and felt that I was far enough away from them that I could go ahead and set my target up about 10 yards down range. After doing so, I got a weird feeling like I did something wrong, even though I never really felt in danger and the group shooting rifles didn't seem to notice or care. Is it just that I'm used to "regulated" ranges where there is a firing line and everything has to stop if any one crosses the line? Wondering if anyone here is a regular there and if they have had similar experience.

...I don't know what to think of this. You went down range when other folks were shooting? How did they react? I, uhhhh, wouldn't recommend doing that.

That's what I was thinking.

If you do it again, at least supply the body bag and coffin.

When you go out to Spenceville you're really taking your life in your hands.

It's full of guys muzzling one another, shooting appliances and bottles, leaving a big mess. Even when the line is called cold, and people are down range setting up targets, there's still people fingering their guns on or behind the line.

I went out there twice before I received any sort of firearms education. There is no way I'd go out there today. Just watching the gun handling would probably give me a heart attack.

Oh you meant Camp Far Redneck. I'd rather set a range up in my back yard and deal with the police and justice system. The gang bangers like to shoot out there too.

Yep, lesson learned. Thank God not the hard way. Not sure how often I'll frequent that range but I'll have more sense about me next time.

Maybe I'll try the Foresthill spot next time. Sounds like that one is a little more spread out.

Thanks for the replies.
