The 'normal' diameter .50 dies are 1.5" and are made to fit presses from RCBS, Hornady, Corbin, Hollywood and RCE...
www.ch4d.com offers both BMG and DTC 1.5" die set to fit them at around 300.00/set. Lee's Classic Cast press uses 1.25" die sets. .50BMG dies are available from stock, but .50DTC sets must still be custom made and will run around 160.00/set in 10 unit quantities. Less if 25 or more are ordered. RCBS, Corbin and CH4D offer adapter bushings to allow the 1.25" Lee dies to fit the larger 1.5" presses. All the presses in question usually include bushings to adapt std 7/8" die sets to the larger presses. |

Ahhh here is the topic I was looking for. I asked my woman if a package arrived for me while I was gone... she says "Yea, a couple did.. but I just threw them in the closet I think"
Nothing is in the closet

Hey Ben, thanks. I'm still in Iraq. (and John Kerry has yet to save me) I assume mine will show up and my wife will think, "Whatever, more gun crap." and toss it in the garage. Let me know my balance and I'll send you a MO whenever I can get to a PO over here.

Ok.... all the CalGuns group orders shipped out yesterday afternoon Priority Mail.
Invoices with balances attached. These dies are designed to fit the Lee 'Classic Cast' 1.25" reloading press. Here's a summary of the basic BMG to DTC conversion: 1. clean donor BMG brass. Re-annealing can be helpful as well. 2. trim donor brass to 3.78-3.80 inches overall length. 3. lube case body, neck and inside case mouth (not the shoulder) The Hornady 'Unique' case lube works well and is inexpensive. 4. adjust full length die in press so that it touches the shell holder + 1/4 turn. 5. full length size the trimmed brass to decap and form the new neck/shoulder. 6. clean/swage/chamfer the primer pockets as necessary. 7. chamfer/deburr the case mouth. 8. clean the formed cases to remove excess lube. 9. re-prime the new cases. 10. charge with a moderate load of suitable powder. (218gr of WC860, IMR5010, or H50BMG works well) 11. seat a suitable bullet in the 643-700gr range. (M33, M2, turned brass solids work well seated to their cannelures) 12. shoot to fire-form the new brass into it's final DTC shape. |
