According to Dimitri @ Ares, having a slide in hand @ the build party is not required. Even after the cnc work, hand fitting & lapping will be required (that of course may very, depending on if the slide is used or new etc..) The cnc programing will still leave approx .003" per the drawings left to fit your slide. I was told if you do have one on hand @ the build party, some "suggestions" would be freely given. I relay this info direct from Ares & since I have not done mine yet, I cant give you first hand experience. I have no other detailed or additional info. Maybe those that have already been to the build party can lend some help to answer some of this.

All,

If you have a slide, bring it. There is a 1911 gunsmith on site who will help fit your slide to your frame, help with assembly and more - his name is Ben and his prices are exceptionally reasonable

Thanks all. Now I should start thinking which slides do I go with. Caspian or Fusion. One for my 9mm and the other for my 45. Any suggestion ? As far as quality wise.

Caspian is what I would pick between the two. Fusion isn't bad either, they're good stuff but Caspian would be my first pick.

Is there a Caspian or Wilson Combat slide/parts GB in the works? I think we have enough guys from both group buys to have a sizeable number of folks interested in such a GB.

Yes Dan you can do a 40 with a barrel, slide and mag, swap. You can even do 40 and 10 mm with just another barrel and maybe another mag but the slide is the same.

What is the shortest slide we can use without making any additional modifications to the frame?
Thx

standard 5 inch i believe anything smaller (commander, officer etc.) will involve cutting rails and guide rod stop (not 100% on that one) back .100

5" with the current setup. If going commander, you must shorten the front of the rails and move the recoil spring abuntment back by .100". Officer requires a different grip length/etc.

Of course I believe you couch on the .100. Does anyone know where I can get a print or drawing of the commander specs?

The dust cover is optional, but yes the rail and recoil spring seat must be cut back. My commander slide will not go fully back on the Rudius at Gov't spec.

Thats what it is called! Recoil spring abutment. I was racking my brain in the middle of the night when posting that. Closest I could come up with was guide rod stop.

LOL yeah I'm not sure what it is really called as well but I figured recoil spring seat gives you a good idea of where it's at. Going to try and commander spec my frame this week.

Recoil spring abutment. Gotta remember that.

And I believe the guide rod itself is a kite different as well, the back would have to have a bevel cut or ground in to keep it from interfering with the link and bottom lugs of the barrel.

And cutting the abutment is pretty straight forward, stand it up vertically (dial indicate to ensure perfectly vertical and perpendicular to the z axis) in the vice and end mill/plunge cut with proper diameter cutter

so what are the revisions being done for this GB of Rudius?

different style grip?

holes being slightly corrected?

Any time frame given on them?

i would also like to see a current list of members who paid and currently waiting for there Rudius.

Why do you need a list of people who participated? If you want to know if you are in then contact organizer. Some people don't like their names attached in public.

not there real names only screen names.

This would be a list of screen names of folks who are waiting for the updated rudius just like how there names where posted in the beginning when they first ordered them.

Honestly, i have zero 1911 experience beyond trigger time. Never stripped or cleaned one. The tech talk has gone over my head and i have accepted it. Dimitri and i spoke on monday, he told me the revisions he is working on are grip related, if that helps? I haven't concerned myself with revisions because our group buy is going to have all these things fixed/improved that have caused previous difficulties. When we pickup if anything is a surprise I promise you all that they will be in our benefit or ares will have to fix it. We payed for 160 frames. 41 jigs. Do the math.
Calgunners are my priority, i want you guys to be happy with the product. Dimitri is very willing to answer questions but i try not to bother him, get our frames faster

And thank you for doing it! Honestly with all the AR parts prices raising so much, I'm considering putting my first AR on hold and this may take its place. It's getting exciting to hear the talk going around about these frames on this board. So again thank you!

hey Fiferronald
I just want to say thank you for organizing this GB. I know it take up a lot of your time with a new baby and all.
But i just have one question to ask. The next time you talk to Dimitri, can you ask him if he offer a grip with no checkering and no lines cut in it. Cause i am planning to stipple my grips and also under the trigger guard. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I would doubt that they would make a mold just for you. they are injection molded not machined.

Why do you want to see a list? How is that any of your business? Some people don't like being on lists, especially building 80% guns!

read post # 670. I'm fine with what fiferronald is doing. I asked because in other GB the organizer lists on the first post who has paid, who received, who is waiting etc.. As i am not asking to place there real names and the discussion about that ended 6 posts ago.
