The best kind of warranty is one you never have to use.
My nightforces seem to have that warranty.

PS-90 50yds, stock 1x optic. 50 rounds standing and kneeling (kneeling using shooting bench for support). Fired in groups of 10 kneeling - standing - kneeling - standing - kneeling. Paused only long enough to regain sight picture, but not quick enough to be rapid fire.

The grouping near the left ear was using the laser (zero'd at 10yds) held at center mass while kneeling. I wanted to see where it was going to impact at 50yds.

The benches are cement so the only things that can burn are the office, the reloading center and the shade.
All that can be rebuilt and there should not be another fire through there for a while with this one cleaning up all the extra fuel.

That's odd. I talked to the lady in the range shack around noon today and she said everything was fine, they were up there sweeping up ash, getting ready to reopen tomorrow, barring anything dire happening between now and tomorrow.

Took my Saiga 7.62x39 out today since I haven't shot it in about 4 months. Surprised when I shot my best group ever with it @50 yards with Golden Tiger cheap ammo.

I finally have something to show for but definitely won't be hunting coyote with Stan anytime soon! I doubt that I can shoot a 2" group at 100 yards. lol

Default Ye' Olde Zero Target

I have this hanging up on my wall ... just because.

It's my zero target from two years ago. I was in the Air Force (separated now) and this was my once-in-two-years qualification.

I was shooting your run of the mill, GI, 15+ year old M16A2. They make us break them down before requal. Not to inspect their integrity, but to remind us of how to do it. Of course they don't let us clean them before shooting, only after (and most of the people don't even bother to do a half-decent job, before they're handed back to the armorer and stored for the next group of lucky individuals).

Anyway, shooting it i knew that my firing pin was blackened beyond black, and the bolt had some gnarly build up on it.

I was one of the lucky ones. It jammed only 4 times on me during the TIMED qualification. But i guess that's why they teach us the in-depth clearing technique called SPORTS (sarcasm there for anyone that used to be, or is, in the AF).

So yeah...zero target. not bad for a crusty old beater of an M16. Mind you, this is only at 25 meters.

Actually i think i'll include my actual qualification target too. Some of you may enjoy it. That too is at 25 meters (so don't rage at me) from 5 different positions (including prone w/ gas mask). You get 50 rounds for warmup/sighting in. Then you get 50 rounds for the qualification itself. You load your mags and shoot 3 or 4 rounds at a time. Time alloted is usually 15-30 seconds per group depending on position.

Not bad Leo, not great either but you hit black! haha

Ill have to post mine from bootcamp.. blurry pic from many years ago.
its posted at 30 meters to simulate 500 meters? i think.
its been a long time.

but anyways here was the grouping with a beat up m16A2 with sights 0/0 to see where it was hitting.
But after the training I qualifed for Expert, with a score of 234/250 pts

Yeah the 44E up there designates Expert too. Each bullet you shoot is 1 pt and 43 or above (out of 50) gets you Expert.

Wanna know what the actual pass rate for AF basic training is? 19 out of 50. My flight had 2 failures in Basic. Pretty funny.

I'm actually much better now. That up there was my second time shooting a rifle ever.

Here is a link to an old military document that contains one (not as good as a new full size on though).

Default First time out

Had an opportunity to finally get out to try the new rig. I had a lot of fun building it, and I would like to thank everyone for a lot of good info I gleaned from the site.

The location is Wes Thompson’s in Piru, CA. As you can see from the attached, it was a beauty day, and a pretty nice facility. They are good to 600yds, with some oddly placed targets at 700 and 1000yds.

I had initially sighted in the scope a couple weeks ago and got it pretty close, I think. You can see the stack of hits at the two o’clock position. That’s 7 hits out of ten rounds at that scope setting. Subsequent rounds seemed to beg an adjustment. My day only went downhill from there, but I adjusted to try to bring things in a bit, with some success. Just shooting Remington factory right now, and I hope to start playing with match loads soon, but I want to make sure the basic setup is right.

200 yds was a whole different story. No real joy, just a bit of frustration. This brings up some real questions. How do I make sure I have the hardware dialed properly, when my performance is such a wild variable?

I would appreciate any tips and/or direction to where I can find some good marksmanship literature to bone up on as I start going forward.

I hope to get proficient with this rig out to 400yds, maybe a little more. But I have a long way to go!

Stag 15 lower
RRA LPK with two stage NM trigger
DPMS Lo-Pro flat top upper
Lothar Walther 20" "Heavy" medium contour barrel with matching bolt, 8 twist
DPMS bolt carrier assy.
Viking tactics free float
Magpul PRS stock
SWFA 10X40 scope with Mill-Dot (very nice)

Have someone else more experienced shoot the rifle.
There's no cure for inconsistency besides instruction and practice.

If you want to shoot farther, you are going to need better quality ammo right away.
Factory blasting ammo is worthless for analyzing your performance because the inconsistency of the ammo masks the inconsistency of the shooter.

If you want to learn to shoot farther, come over here:

Here's my scoresheet from last weekend:

That's 20 shots for score at 1000yds.
200 points possible and I shanked 1 shot into the 9 ring...

How big is that X ring? It looks like an inch. If so, even if 2 inches, phenominal shooting.

A precision bolt gun in .243 keeps climbing higher on my list when I see shooting like that, and read the posts by you long range guys.

That's the SCORESHEET, not the target.
We were shooting on an NRA longrange 1000yd target.

D'oh, shoulda known that... Show us a target then. Or just tell me, what is your X-ring at 1000. Is it 10 inches (or 1MOA)?

ETA: never mind! checked the link. Yes, 10" or 1MOA. Excellent shooting.

Thank you. That was my thinking also. I don't have much experience and I need to learn the classically accepted steps of shooting accurately.

Any wisdom that would be helpful is greatly appreciated.

Just for fun one day.....and to impress the girls shooting with me. I taped some quarters to a USPSA target and then shot them with a 9mm and a 22. The quarters went flying and were never recovered...we were at an outdoor range. I need to figure a way out to keep the quarters from flying off.

Default REMINGTON 5R MIL-SPEC .308 w/ LEUPOLD MK4

Using factory Federal GM 168gr. Sierra MatchKing ammo, I started zeroing my scope and got a real nice 4-shot group while doing it:

TWO 3-shot groups:

5-shot group after final zeroing:

These are a few bulls from yesterday, 100 yards, iron sights, from the bench, using my 69 grain reloads. Apologies for crappy cell pics.

This one is 10 rounds, and instead of irons I used a carry-handle mounted 4 x 20 cheapo Barska scope. I zero'd it in a couple months ago, but never tried to shoot a group with it until yesterday. The problem with this scope is that the reticle is so thick (~2 MOA wide) that it obscures much of the bullseye, so it is difficult to place precisely.

While not great for precision shooting, the little 4x Barska was definitely quicker to use for shooting steel at 300 yards (than my irons). It'll do that easily, all day long.

Here's two targets fired through my Stag Model 1, the one on the left is from 50 yards (I wrote meters, but it's Yards), and is two shots.

The one in the middle is three shots fired at 100 yards.

The one on the right, well, that's a quarter.

I shot both of these from my Stag with an EOTech and no magnification using Federal bulk 55gr .223. I shot from a sandbag supported table rest, not much to it, I just shot a couple of these smaller targets and used a spotting scope to guide my groupings in, these are the results from the 50 and 100 yards target sets. Here's the setup I used...
