Are people still debating the reliability of Glocks? How silly.

Arghh....both are great, no doubt. Tough question. I like my Glock 21SF(did a trigger job myself), but if I had to pick ONE and ONLY one gun, I'd take my HP Browning for these reasons:
1) Easier to conceal
2) Slimmer and fits better in my hand
3)SA/DA
4)Amazingly reliable even with reloads

Both are great, I strongly prefer anything by John Moses Browning and especially HP.

Never had anyone compare those two pistols before. Odd question. Both are great pistols but I would have a Glock.

No doubt the hi-power is a great pistol but....... gulp....... I think they are ugly . I'm not a hater of the hi-power, just not a lover.

No worries, if you are in LA(and shoot at Angeles) let me know and I'll let you shoot a couple three mags from my HP and you just might change your opinion. Just a simple trigger job and a mag disconnect. Nothing else.

How many rounds have you BHP guys put thru the gun? We don't start counting with a Glock until it reaches 100,000 rounds.

Glock reliability hands down.

Steel vs. polymer. I might lean Glock for carry just b/c of weight, but both are going to go bang every time, I would trust either with my life. I am a big fan of steel guns, shoot them for a while, and you probably will be too. But they are apples and pineapples to compare.

The next threads the OP will start are Glock vs. CZ75, Glock vs. M&P, Glock vs. XD, Glock vs. STI, Glock vs. 1911, Glock vs. M16, and Glock vs. AK-47.
How many do we need of these threads? They've been done to death.

For me BHP seven days a week and twice on Sunday. IMHO the BHP is one of the finest handguns ever designed.

Pretty much a pointless question though because you will never convince the Glock fanboys or the real steel guys that your preference is the right one........ LOL.

It's totally a fine pistol, but you're incorrect to think that the HP can withstand the nastiness and neglect what the Glock can. There is just no way. I don't even think the HP is a candidate for modern torture tests.

Glock what? Glock 26 vs the full size Browning High Power?

I'd choose the BHP.

Glock 17 (or 19) vs the BHP?

Glock. Or the BHP. But I'd prefer the Glock.

Yeah yeah Glock is more reliable, but the BHP can do the job. It did for the UK for many years (right up 'til this year IIRC).

High Power.

There's more to life then torture tests.

As civilians, we have the luxury to carry a weapon with some degree of style and pedigree. Why not avail ourselves of the option to do so?

The Browning HP is strictly a single action pistol. The firing mechanism does not operate double-action.

I carry a Glock daily, I wouldn't carry a Hi-Power unless it had a ton of money dumped in it and combed thru by a good gunsmith.

Bhp is a nice firearm. But I would have to go with glock on this one. Reliability and function is always winner imo

I guess the question would be better posted as: What do you prefer to drive, a Honda Civic or a Porche Boxter? Answer is automatic....

And for the ones who prefer the 1911 over the BHP must be because of the caliber, so they are nor responding the question which relates to a pistol selection...And if they underestood the question right, it sounds weird to pick the weakest and out dated design over the newer and perfected one, both from the same designer.. BHP is considered the pinnacle of John Moses Browning design, the 1911 was his garage concept....Great weapon, but it is obviouslly outdated against the BHP. My 2 cents...

How's that 1911 gonna be with JHP's? You're going to trust that over a Glock? Having a feed ramp that is part of the frame is not JHP friendly.

And I was right..... LOL.

I personally don't like any polymer guns. Shot them all, think they feel cheap. Like I said, I don't expect to convert anyone but you can keep the plastic guns if that's what you want.

By the way, if you neglect any firearm, you get what you deserve. That would never be a consideration for me. I don't neglect them. Ever.

I have both guns. Both are very accurate and always go bang when the trigger is pulled. One is lighter than the other for obvious reasons, but not by to much. In stock form I find the BHP sights nicer. The BHP has a better trigger pull in my opinion. Overall fit in the hand, they are fairly even. I would say get both if you can, they are very nice firearms.

I have trusted my life to a Browning HP, but I started carrying it long before "Austrian Tupperware" was even a gleam in eye of Gaston Glock. Even now it isn't much of a choice for me since at least through the Gen 3 guns my hand and the grip of the Glock haven't worked well together.

I certainly see an advantage to the Glock as a carrying gun since the BHP is a pretty hefty chunk of steel. In a gunfight, however, the weight of the BHP is a real advantage compared to a modern polymer framed pistol. The really big commercial disadvantage to the BHP is that it is a product from a different era of gun production and far more expensive to make than a more modern design. I have to agree that a Glock will probably stand up to abuse and neglect better than a BHP, but no one in his right mind should go into harm's way without taking care of their weapons. With just a bit of care and attention, 75 years of experience have established that the FN M1935 will go bang when you need it to go bang.

From a purely subjective standpoint, the Glock pistols have always struck me as cold and soulless machines. There seems to be some "magic" built into the BHP design that makes it naturally point towards what you want to shoot. There is an elegance to the BHP that translates into confidence by its user, and confidence is the single most important thing a handgun can bring to a man or woman in a gunfight.

I own an BHP MkIII Practical, a G17 and G26, and for SHTF would take the Glocks.

The BHP was my first pistol, and while a great gun, doesn't have the durability of a modern pistol.

At around 6 or 7 thousand rounds, the sear wore out and the hammer started following the slide into battery. Lucky for me, it would catch on the half-cock. I sent it back and they fixed it, and have since replaced the sear with a C&S machined sear.

It's still a great shooter, especially after putting in a C&S wide combat trigger, but it sits in my safe these days.

My other go-to pistol is a Sig P220. My reserve pistol is a Ruger P89 (plus the matching PC9).

Not changing my mind on Glock in this discussion, but the BHP is actually not that heavy... it's listed at 32oz on Brownings website, which is in fact 2oz lighter than a P226. As far as the "plastic gun" haters go, that is the most narrow minded attitude you can have with modern technology. Glock, Ruger SR, FN, HK.... all have passed BHP for technological advancement.

I have both, a P35 and Glocks. Like them all, but I don't get "hammer shank bite" with Glocks. The hammer shank, (not the spur) ocassionaly get me on the BHP, otherwise fine pistol.

Respectfully
Kyle

"The BHP was my first pistol, and while a great gun, doesn't have the durability of a modern pistol."

Whattttt?

I have seen at least 3 times guys shooting BHP dated back to the WWII (mid 1940'sm made in Belgium) so what are you talking about durability?

Take a BHP and do a 10K round torture test.

Do the same with a Glock, Sig, H&K or Beretta.

See which one makes it through.

ETA: I got to 6 or 7K rounds through my BHP before something major broke. My duty Sig P228 got to 30K+ rounds, with only mainspring changes every 10K rounds and recoil spring changes every 5K rounds. And this was with a 50% of the rounds being +P+.

They are both proven weapons.

I would choose the Glock, someone else would choose the High Power. Neither of us are "wrong".

I did some training in England with BHPs that dated back to WWII. This was in the mid-80s and these guns reportedly had been in use at the "training centre" since sometime in the mid-50s. Yes, the pistols needed to be maintained and periodically overhauled, but at only 100 rounds a month that would be well over 35,000 rounds plus whatever use these had before that. More likely the round count was several times that. Based on military service for over 75 years I think there is no doubt that a BHP can "go the distance."
