SSE stands for Single Shot Exemption. If you go to the top of the forum, you'll see a link "CGN Google Search". Click on that enter Single Shot Exemption and it will show you all you need to know. And, yes, I do live in Pacifica! Cap

i'm very surprised they're a "secret." sure not a store front but i'm very happy with them. i've dealt with a few ffls and somehow, i just find my way back to Roger's/Lisa's place. they're always mentioned here as a preferred and recommended ffl. (i know i post of them).

Krausewerk is my favorite place in SM County: http://www.krausewerk.com/
Bunch of old timers that love to talk guns. Shop is full of older stuff, lots of Lugers, but they will receive and ship as well. Best prices and fastest service I have had locally, strange hours though...

Rob Blank in Milpitas.
$40 for the service + $25 for the DROS.. He real organized and up to date on the laws. Does pistols (with SSE conversions also), rifles, AR's, lowers, etc. All the major online places have his FFL on file also. I don't understand what he charges for tax though. http://www.yelp.com/biz/rmb-enterprises-milpitas

I've heard nothing but great news about Kevin Smith as he was referred by many of my contacts. However, I hate driving so I go to my local FFL High Bridge Arms (last FFL in SF) to support them and they are 10 minutes from my house.

San Jose Gun Trader
If you're in the south bay, San Jose Gun Trader is the one to go.
Honest, cheap, friendly, knows his 'S'. Recently, bought my first gun from him and can't say nothing bad. Works from his house with his baby daughter in the crib out in the front. I was torn if I should post something about him b/c he's new to the market as a dealer (10/12, i think) and hate to see him less flexible, more expensive, no guns with him being busier and busier..... which is happening. |

+1 to Rogers Relics in Santa Clara. Just did a new purchase transfer with them a few weeks ago. Really nice couple. Lisa does all the paper work and Roger does the safety check.

Off tracking a little bit and didn't mean to thread jack. Let me know if this isn't appropriate as I will be happily delete this post.
I'm currently working on this project: Http://www.bangbamboom.com It'll be nice if you guys can help by posting the FFL list here and post as well their fees. That way it's easier for all of us in searching for FFL and checking their fees and infos as well. iPhone app development is also in progress. Any feedback is much appreciated. |

+1 for Templar. If it is a lower you want, just buy one from them. They have them in stock at good prices... Forget the internet and support your LGS

+1 for City Arms in Pacifica. I've done several PPTs there, and never had a problem. I also buy most of my new guns there. They're always friendly, down to earth, and prices are reasonable.
+1 for Eddy's Shooting Sports in Mountain View. Small shop, very friendly owner. Did a PPT as the buyer a few days ago and it was a VERY smooth process. -1 for Jackson Arms. It's a decent range, but I got turned down twice for a long gun PPT there because their safe was full. Very small selection of guns to buy if you're looking to buy new, and they can be standoffish unless you're a regular. -1 for Reeds (the gun shop, not the range). A bunch of revolver-age dinosaurs who know very little about modern guns. Your mileage may vary. -1 for Imbert & Smithers. Again, a bunch of revolver-age dinosaurs. They cater to elderly hunters and trap shooters. If you're under 50, don't bother. If you're not a hunter, don't bother. If you like "evil black rifles", definitely don't bother. Very standoffish and arrogant. |

Here's my 2 cents:
Imbert & Smithers - yes, the store is very much about the hunting rifles. But they will PPT handguns faster than anyone else, and won't futz around about you having to buy a lock from them as long as you fill out the affidavit affirming you own an approved gun safe. You can be in and out of there inside of 10 minutes, easily. Targetmasters - they take their sweet time, and then some more time on top of that, doing the paperwork. Be prepared to spend over an hour to do the transfer. And also be prepared for the most comprehensive set of gun safety questions you'll find anywhere. You'll have to buy a lock, as well. J&R Sports - pretty quick with the transfer paperwork. No requirement to buy a lock. Too bad they're way out in Livermore. Jackson Arms - slow with the paperwork, and they'll require you to buy a lock from them. Bullseye (Castro Valley) - slow as well with the paperwork, and they'll require you to buy a lock. Elite Armory - only shop I've been to where you do the paperwork electronically (they have a laptop dedicated to transfers), which speeds things up as long as their printer is not giving them fits (it did the one time I was there). Dunno their lock policy, as I'd forgotten to bring a lock, so I bought one. Diablo Valley Gun Works - older group of gents there who I've heard can be cantankerous, but I've only had good dealings with them the two times I did transfers there. No lock purchase requirement. Average turnaround time for paperwork. Annie's Guns - average turnaround time for paperwork. No lock purchase requirement. Gun safety check/test you'll perform when you pick up is a bit more involved then other LGS's. |

+1 For Peter at MP Arms!
He responds quickly to inquiries and took his time explaining all the information and procedures to me. A first time gun buyer. I had the firearm shipped to him from an online retailer. He also did SSE for me. I believe dealer transfers are as follows: Long guns $60 including DROS Handguns $70 including DROS Great guy! Definitely going back to him if I purchase something online. |

Mount Pleasant Arms: another vote for Peter, He's great!! Paltik_01 listed the pricing correctly. He does lowers and SSE for certain pistols.
Imbert & Smithers: To me they can be a good shop if you use them wisely, go early before they get real busy and you'll receive better help; they seem to get stressed by the heavy traffic as the day goes on. Like most places, the guys are cool once you get to know them. This is more of a hunting and pistol gun store; they can get pretty much what ever you want within limits. They have some Kali legal black rifle stuff and move lots of SA M1A's too. They will not touch lower and SSE transfers. $100 + DROS on all transfers. Peninsula Guns and Tactical: They do lower transfers and are not SSE licensed. For the most part they seem nice, not sure I'd purchase a firearm from them though, to me they're expensive. (stripped lowers $75.00 + DROS, lowers $100 + DROS). City Arms (Pacifica), they seem really nice, I just haven't really used them yet other than drive by's to see what they currently have.

Used Kevin Smith more recently for a purchase from an Internet vendor, piece of cake and a nice price. I'd use either again but I believe City East wants $100 for Internet purchases - fee was $75+DROS for my in-state PPT shipped from SoCal. So odds are next time I'll call Kevin again. |
