This will be my about 40th show, getting to know the place by heart I guess. Aside from Scheels and Cabelas, are there any other big gun stores in Reno to visit?

I'll be there on Friday. We plan on shooting on Saturday and Sunday.

dfletcher, there's Sportsman's Warehouse, I believe it's on South Virginia.

Nope, it is on Kietzke near Moana. Frankly, I would save the trip. They have no C&R, seldom much in the way of ammo that you can't get anywhere else, and generally little in the way of reloading components (well, anything I need). Although they have had primers in stock regularly, a thin selection of bullets, but rarely any powder other than H50BMG. You may be able to score some 22LR if you are in the line at the front door when they open Friday morning, but if you have a job, no 22 for you!

Scheels has had lots of rifle powder lately, and quite a lot of bullets, mostly Hornady. Few if any C&R anything.

Cabelas has been hit and miss with reloading supplies and ammo, and generally has the largest selection of C&Rs in the area, and are CA FFL friendly. It has been slim picking the last few times I was there though.

I can't remember the last time I saw pistol powder anywhere recently.

I will be there to check out the show and my wife gets a vacation in Reno. We go twice a year, and always have had a good time.

I've been to a few shows in Las Vegas in the last couple of years and they were fine except the one at the Sports Arena which was a joke unless you are into digital massagers and RC toys. But one of the accessory vendors at Cashman field show and another one at the Southpoint Casino said that the Big Reno Show was a good one for C&R firearms. Anyone have feedback on that? thanks

Yes there are usually a lot of C&R's but you'll pay the price for them!

FWIW what emcon5 says about Sportmans Warehouse is true, however they seem to have blackpowder supplies and percussion caps regularly if you need that stuff!

Gun shows seem to be gouge shows.

This is true, in days past gunshows were where you went to get "good deals" on stuff. Now you just go to find the stuff you can't find online or at a LGS. But you'll pay the gun show premium price AND in Reno you'll be paying "Nevada Casino Taxes"

I haven't bothered with a Reno gunshow in at least 5-6 years and don't feel left out, it's only a 70 mile drive for me.

Thanks for the correction. I've never been to that one, just see it passing by. I do go to the one in Carson, occasionally they have components. It's hit or miss these days.

I really like Willey Brother's firearms 9225 S. Virgina St.

I went by there on my birthday trip to Reno last year and it was a really cool store. Some pretty fancy guns, a lot of the usual, but they were all out in the open where you could handle them. Super friendly people and a clearance holster section. Definitely worth the trip!

Still working to get Friday off but right now it looks like I am going. Just don't know if it will be Friday - Sunday or just Saturday and Sunday. Even if I don't buy anything it is still fun to just look at all the tables of stuff and just get away.

I know I'll be going for the Reno Air Races. For those that have never gone it really is a fun and unique event.

I work a table at the Reno Show with a friend of mine, so I will be there early Thursday morning for the setup and then I will be cruising the floor for the next few days looking for deals!!

If anyone is looking for something unique, shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can locate it for you and point you in the right direction

Can't go this time around, but I get there once or twice every year. Never gets old. There are bargains to be had, but you gotta look for 'em...

So, last C&R I purchased was in 2013 and the transfer was done the way we all wish it would still be done, but that's not the case anymore. Since I'm not an 03, I assume everything must be done through an 01? Assuming I wanted something, I'm just curious what the varying routes are to taking possession since I'm a CA resident. I have no problem returning to Reno after the wait, but I'd like to minimize the transfer fees and am hoping I don't need to ship to my local ($$). I assume there would be no tax as well? Sorry for the n00b questions, please ignore if they've been hashed out a hundred times.
There are at least a few California dealers that offer transfer services to Ca residents. I know one is in Auburn and I think there is one from Cordelia. The way I understand it is they do the paperwork at the show and then you come pick up your purchase at their shop after the 10 day wait.

I do remember talking to one of the dealers at the last show and by Saturday they were done doing this type of transfers because they had no more space in their safes, so don't plan on doing it on Sunday afternoon.

Yep, I'll be there by 0830. Nice to see different stuff from what I have seen at the CA shows. We had JD, fly wheel start, on the farm in Lancaster when I was really young and spent a fair amount of time riding a CornBinder M in my late teens early 20's.

Ok headsup! Cabelas has zip 22lr ammo. Sportsmans warehouse has a pile and no line at 1015 hrs Friday AM. Cabelas has a commerative M1 carbine for $399, a nice Nylon 66 but @ $349!!, they have an H&R M999 6in bbl $199, good deal if C&R. Sportsmans limit on 22 is 3 boxes and they have 22mag! Cabelas limit one box and nothing on the shelf @ 0930.

The best thing I found is small rifle primers for $22.95 per 1000 and a couple of WWII 1911a1 remington hammers. I saw a couple of M1 carbines and 1903A3's that where priced right but I wasn't in the market for those.

Hey Aghauler; I was looking at everyone's hats at the tractor show, they thought I was weird... I spent my limit at the gun show, although not on C&R. My son is a resident, and he talked me into paying for a $700 semi auto for his collection. Of course it needed $300 worth of ammo too. I wanted to buy a hit and miss, but nothing met the right price given I was 1k poorer. Nice to see guns for sale at a tractor show, I wanted that 10 Ga. Oh well, next year.

I thought the Reno show was pretty good. I could have spent 1-2k on Friday and not been sorry. Lots of overpriced hardware, but plenty of fair prices too - my opinion.

Maybe my kid will let me shoot his new toy.

Wait, that was a 10ga? Guess I was looking too hard at those 22's he had.

Glad you and your kid had a "great time" at the gun show.
I took my daughter to the Reno show some years back she was fascinated by all the old guns but what really impressed her? This, she was amazed at how polite people were to each other! She's a physician now in Albuquerque.
I scored a milk bottle from the old Petaluma Co-Operative Creamery. Short story on that I was leaving the tractor show and checked out a booth that had various stuff and a few bottles. I asked the lady for a price on the big milk bottles she said $15 I said I'll take this one. As she is giving me my change her hubbie walks up and, "that was a thirty....., well YOU sold it!" he was kinda PO'd but he hadn't marked the prices. My family's Co-Op number was 120 out of over 400 dairy's that shipped to the Co-Op.

Did you see the 2 1932's Studebakers? One was a racing speedster absolutely beautiful. Not as many trucks this year but a nice show and wouldn't you just to have that fellas property??

I went this morning, folks were starting to pack up by around 11. I saw a few interesting Mausers, a G43 with a scope mount, a couple of K98 "Snipers", one ZF41, and one double claw, don't know if either were real.

One thing I saw that I will probably be kicking myself for not getting was a ZF39 style Hensoldt Wetzlar scope for $200. It was a single post reticle, which seemed to move with the adjustment knob. No other markings on it.

I did pick up another AR500 steel plate, need to make a mount for it.

No tease man - Really only got some stocks/grips and some knick knacks -

Spent too much time catching up with old friends - That's what it's about for me -

I did pick up another AR500 steel plate, need to make a mount for it.

Sad but quite true - There were complete empty aisle by noon -

I drooled over that Mauser just a little!

The show was good to me, though... sold about $3500 worth of guns to kickstart my Jeep project.
