Just put my M&P 22 in Jail from shop in San Jose!
Already ordered the Dawson Precision Sights (I knew I would not care for the stock ones) Can't Wait... wish some of the online places had the $25 Magazines in stock... 44Mag.Com had some but wanted $40/ea still. Sw2 |

What size front and rear sight did you get? Those Dawson sights look great.
Let us know if you find any other ammo that feeds as reliably as the CCI mini-mags. I've tried Federal and Winchester and mine didn't like either. The one I used in Michigan ate Remington Golden Bullets just fine, but I've heard other people have trouble with them.

Front sight went on pretty nicely. Rear sight had to be filed to get in. Took me about 45 mins, was my very first time attempting to install sights. All I had were the provided sight pushers and a little hammer. I have some Federal Auto Match .22LR that I am going to try out. Last edited by Paperchasin; 01-10-2013 at 7:02 PM.. |

Thats correct. I still had to file the dovetail slightly on the DP Fiber Optic rear sight. Keep in mind that the M&P22 slide is made of aluminum, so it is softer than the sights. If you force the sights into place, you will damage your slide. This is also mentioned in the included installation instructions.

Just put one in jail last Saturday. Looks like I could win the lottery easier, than find any extra mags these days, ugh!
Got it at Turners in San Diego if anyone is looking. Update: Picked mine up from Turners today. So many people there, you'd think they were giving something away for free. The pistol feels nice in my hands and hopefully will have time to shoot it this weekend. Anyone willing to sell any mags for these? (Never hruts to ask, right?) Steve

Picked up my first today... I got the Smith and Wesson M&P 22 (CA)... I also have ordered an M&P 9mm (which are out of stock everyone in the area and online, just waiting for S&W to ramp up production), which is basically the same size, shape, etc, so I figured the .22lr would be a good "trainer" with much cheaper rounds for practice!
NEED MORE MAGS!!

This is probably one of the best .22LRs on the market right now... I've shot most .22LR pistols. The only problem I had was that I was getting some FTF/FTE with Winchester Super X ammo and Federal's American Eagle, I believe. Remington, Federal bulk, and CCI didn't give me any problems whatsoever for the most part.
Awesome gun, otherwise. Going to change out the front sight to a Dawson Precision fiber optic since I'm perfectly fine with the black rear sight. Was going to go with a set of TruGlo TFO's but, didn't seem practical. If you guys are interested, here are a few links I've saved for myself previously: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Produ...2BE-1321897421 http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Produ...5C6-1341856480 http://www.opticsplanet.com/truglo-t...p-tg231mp.html |

Is the M&P 22 a good choice if I want to learn how to shoot striker fired weapons? How similar is the .22lr version to its center fire brothers in terms of the trigger?

If you want a pistol that doubles as something to learn to shoot and is a home defense weapon, not so much. best thing is to try a .22 rental and higher caliber (kind of hard since ammo is at a premium even at gun shops) and see what you like. If you're okay learning on a higher caliber and want to eventually have one for home defense, get something bigger. If you just want it to learn to shoot, get the .22 and be happy.

the M&P22 is technically a hammered fired gun.

Just got back from my first Range time with my new M&P22 (picked up last Monday from jail). Shot about 200 rounds, first 50 were CCI Minimag's and rest Federal Bulk. I had 2 "dud's" (FTF) toward the end, but otherwise no other real issues.
Two things I noted, I am a lefty, have moved the mag release to the right hand side (opposite from stock), but when I use the slide lock on that same side (the right side), it only sometimes fully engages the lock and I had to use the left side one from time to time. Kind of awkward when holding the pistol in my left hand. Secondly, the stock sights are not awesome, at least for me. Everything I shot was way high (and I didn't bring any tools to adjust the rear sight height, so something else I need to add to my range bag). I'd be embarrassed to show the pic I took of my Target at the end of my session, but needless to say, most of the holes were above the midpoint (and all over the place since I'm a real newbie shooter). I have a set of Dawson Precision sights on my workbench, but wanted to see if the stock sights were as bad and I thought they might be! Overall, I'm happy with the gun, the blips are nothing that I can't work through with the Slide Lock and a sight adjustmement and change. One other thing that I hadn't realized (I've only shot anything a couple times before) is that I'm a lefty with a dominant right eye. Not a huge issue with pistols and I don't plan on shooting rifles any time soon, so just was kind of unexpected.

Put my Dawson Precision Sights on this afternoon...not sure how to photo these things correctly, but I like them... hope to go test them out and zero them a little bit this weekend maybe.

local range only has Blazer rounds and my M&P didn't like to eject it on the first round for whatever reason.
had CCI minimag on hand, but since i can't seem to buy them anywhere for the past two weeks locally i didn't want to go through them. loaded up 9 blazer rounds and top'd it off with a single CCI. seemed to trick the gun into firing through the Blazer stuff away without issue. I haven't shot a full mag of Blazer just yet, but I thought it was worth sharing for those that might have similar instance. |

Took mine out this past Monday. I fired at least 50 rounds of: Remington thunderbolt and golden bullets, 50 of American Eagle. Not one FTF or fte. Sights were close to being right on, was shooting a little high, but they were close like I said. Accuracy was quite good with all 3 types of ammo.
If you're thinking about buying one, I say do it. You'll be happy with it only downer is that it only comes with one mag. Steve

Just busted mine out of jail today. I love the way M&P's feel in my hand. I'm going to try and put some rounds through it this weekend. My only gripe is this thing was LOADED with grease! Especially in the take down lever part. I couldn't believe it. When I pulled out the guide rod, there was a big glop of it that came out with it. I tried to get as much as I could out but there's still tons left. Was all that really necessary?!?

In this current climate, that is a decent deal. I paid $35 per mag pre panic. Ive seen mags go for $100 each!!

Mine prefers CCI Blazers and Mini Mags. It liked Federal Automatch in the beginning, but then started having FTFs (one per mag or so). Seems like the CCI stuff runs a bit hotter even though both are 40 grain. The more pronounced recoil is what is needed to send the slide back to pick up the next round. I've cleaned it except for the stuff in the guide rod area...maybe cleaning that might do the trick and make it less picky??

I know it may sound crazy, but I swear to god federal bulk 36gr feels hotter in hand compared to 40gr cci blazer. I know I know it doesn't make sense, but the felt recoil of federal bulk is quite sharp vs cci blazer a little dull.
Kinda difficult to describe. |

yup, the red federal bulk from walmart. 36gr,hp, copper washed. I was so glad because due to cost and performance, federal bulk is the only ammo I stock.
I bought a few boxes of cci blazer just because people say it requires hotter ammo to break in first. After 20 rds of cci, I put in 10 rd federal expecting to have some jams. Didn't jam. then another 10, another 10, up till the end of the night, I shot about 300rds federal bulk, only 1 FTF. |
