The gun in that picture is definitely a Model 15/Combat Masterpiece.

Most S&W models don't change number/name just because of barrel length, so it's easy to confuse them. Only other one I can think of is the Model 17/18. These are the K-22 Masterpiece models, with the 6" being the M17 and 4" being the M18.

saw this picture and thought i'd share my swap meet find from today. arriving late today, i hadn't found any treasure at the swap meet and feeling tired but not defeated, was walking to the exit when i stopped at a table. i immediately noticed an old factory S&W 2 piece black box with the contents exposed for prospective buyers to see. the box being black in color was an early variant that included no writing or graphics on it's lid, but did include a S&W label on one end of lid indicating the model revolver that had once been housed inside. in this case the factory tag revealed that the box housed a "S&W K-38 Heavy Masterpiece/Target Hammer/Target Stocks/Blued/6 inch" revolver.
inside the box was two cleaning kits which included 2 factory OEM S&W screwdrivers/sight adjustment tools. the older of the two was the short variant with long tapering of blade (1961-1964). the other screwdriver being the variant made from 1964-1988, and although i have many of these, this one is significantly longer than the others of this type in my collection. the contents in the box also included older original S&W cleaning rods of various lengths and numerous other cleaning tools with some in original packaging. the entire haul cost me a total of $3.00 otd. amongst other OEM S&W collectibles, i collect older S&W revolvers, boxes, screwdrivers and cleaning kits. this find was most gratifying. |

Beautiful. At a gun show a few months ago (FL) there was this old veteran who had a small table way in the back corner. In his glass case he had an unfired King Cobra. Hands down was the highlight of the whole show. Beautiful gun..one day i will have one...or two... |

Here's my other wheel guns. 2010 Charter Undercover with circa 1964 grips. They're not particulary comfortable, but they give the gun a cool look and make it quite concealable.
And here's my run of the mill 642 that I bought used a few months back. It's a little beat up but runs good and conceals very well. It's also very lightweight and once you get used to indexing the trigger it is fairly accurate. Last but not least, here's my NAA .22LR that I won in a raffle at Friendly Firearms in Bakersfield. I would have never spent the $250 they were asking for this, but I have this on my permit as well in case I ever need it. I can't hit the broadside of a barn with it, but I suppose it'd be better than nothing in the right circumstance. ...I suppose I have rather eclectic taste in revolvers. |

Here's my Charter Arms Undercover with recently added wood grips. When purchased, it came with the larger black rubber grips, which never felt good in my hand. Now it feels "just right" when I hold and shoot it, and seems much more true to the classic snub-nosed revolver look!

Revolver Pics
Colt SAA Frontier Six Shooter chambered in 44-40. Serial # dates it to 1907. Lots of carry time but the action is solid and timing is perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Would love to know the story behind that gun. Who carried, where did it go in its travels, when did the chop the barrel, etc. Even boring stories have a fascinating aspect when a gun is that old.

^^^ a few of my old S&W revolvers allegedly sat in drawers for 60+ years and even then i wonder about the persons that owned them. i have a S&W Safety Hammerless 4th Model that was manufactured well over 100 years ago that makes my mind wonder. it remains in very nice condition with only some light scratching on the side plates that looks to be the result of a cleaning effort, but not intrusive enough to detract from the revolver's beauty, original grips and all.

I received a set of Colt Trooper grips in lacewood from Badger Custom Grips yesterday. Here they are on my '72 4" Lawman. Very happy with them. I'm looking forward to finding out how it shoots with these grips!
Note: MK III Colts / J frames all have the same grip frame except the Lawman 2", so the Trooper grip fits my 4" Lawman. MK V revolvers are also J-frames and will fit the same grips.
