11/14/13: Event Cancelled

Ladies and gentlemen, that time of the year is upon us....

The leaves are turning a beautiful golden brown, the days are getting cooler and shorter, and the Infamous Tactical Turkey Shoot at Burro Canyon is just around the corner.

What: The Coolest most Tacticool, CalGuns Official MAJOR Night Shoot.

When: The Shoot will take place on Saturday November 16th, 2013.

Where: Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa. (about 20 minutes North of the 210 Freeway and Azusa Off Ramp) Website: http://www.burrocanyon.com/

Time: Check in for the event starts at 5pm. Ends when Burro Canyon kicks us out.

Important: This is a private CalGuns ONLY event, that will take place after the Park has closed for the day to the general public. Wristbands and name tags will be out at the event.

Important: No Magnetic Ammo/Steel Core at Burro Canyon. The Shoot is deep in the canyons, and the U.S. Forest Service strictly enforces the ammo restrictions. If your ammo attracts a magnets, please do not bring it as you will not be able to shoot it. All other local, state and Federal laws also apply.

This year, we are pleased to bring back the much anticipated "belt fed and exotics range!"
You will have the opportunity to purchase ammunition to shoot some of the rarest and coolest guns ever built.
This event is always in high demand, so ammo sales will be limited to a certain number per person, to accommodate as many people as possible.

Extras:

We are having several ranges with special options.

After firing these beauties you will leave with something intangible... a huge grin from face to face, and a very cool story to tell everyone.
A photographer will be at the event taking photos, however, feel free to take your own.

We are pleased to also have 5 Arrows Tactical running one of our Private Ranges. Shooters will have the opportunity to do 2 runs through a simulated room clearing drill in LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS!
This will be done with a mix of hostages and bad guy targets.
This will be a pistol and flashlight ONLY course.
Two hits are needed on each of the bad guys to count as a hit, and penalties will be awarded for misses or innocents shot during the drills.
A quick run through of the what the drill consist of, will be done prior to the contestants running the court.
Cost for the drill is $10 for two runs that will timed.... and you might just run into a bleeding zombie or two.

This sounds fun. Can we bring our own steel targets? Is the range lit or can we use night vision and thermal?

Unfortunately Burro's policy is no steel targets and no steel core/magnetic ammo.

I saw the no magnetic ammo policy but they didn't specify no steel targets if the fire danger was low. Oh well, guess I'll just start saving up plastic beverage containers. Those are fun too, especially if filled with water and food coloring. I can rig up some target stands to suspend six or so at a time.

If the entire facility is open and there are bays to spare, those of us with passive night vision optics might want to get together and get our own bay. Any weapon light that puts out even a little visible light or IR can cause major blooming. Nov 17 is full moon so there will be a ton of ambient light for even the poorest quality gen 1 devices. Those using weapons mounted NV would need to make sure their units active IR illumination is disabled to meet Cali regs.

Private bays will all be taken for the event, with a few exceptions. I am not sure Burro would rent them out privately. Glow sticks and water bottles work well.

Last year we had a complaint of too much lighting.. Yes, we will have lighting, but bring your own flash light and glow sticks.

2 RED Glow sticks will be required if you are walking down range to fix your target. 1 on the front, 1 on the back.

The Rifle Range will be open, as well as 4 other private bays. We will have plenty of space.

Yes, it's a night event. We start at 5pm after Burro closes to the public so we will have the whole place to ourselves for this event. All shooting must stop by 11pm.

According to the FAQ on Burro's website, steel gongs are allowed on the pistol ranges and private bays so long as they are a safe distance away, which I assume is 25 yards. They are not allowed on the rifle ranges.

Count me in. I'll stick a Dereelight Aspheric NightMaster in an Elzetta Zorm mount and try some 200 yard shooting with an M4gery and then just play with pistol caliber stuff with helmet mounted PVS 14 and IR light and laser. This will be fun.

There has been a bit of confusion on steel gongs over the years I've been a member, at one time you could only use handguns/pistols with steel targets (not rifles on a private range). BUT it has been years since I've seen any steel allowed on any range up there.
You should call and verify before bringing steel targets.

I don't think more then 1% of people had anything slightly related to night vision.
This is NOT a NVG event. Their will be able lighting, but most people put some type of glow in the dark item on their target.

I might have some spare mounts. Some adhesive foam goes in the mounts and keeps the flashlight body from getting scratched up. PM me what make and model of light you want to attach and I'll see if any of my unused mounts will fit.

I'd be picking throwers only for weapon mounted lights, flooders for picking up brass and unloading the car etc etc.
