NJ now limiting the magazine capacity of off duty cops.
I thought California was bad, but I could see San Francisco doing this.
I guesss the Acting Bergen County Prosecutor sent letters informing all Chiefs of police, Police Director, Officer in Charge, and Sheriffs that sworn personnel, when off duty, is prohibited carrying more than 10 rounds magazines unless while on duty or traveling to and from an authorized place of duty. The statute applies to all LE. The violation of the statute constitutes a Fourth Degree crime. Unbelievable! Thought I’ share. |

That's real cute. Who does this carpet bagger think is gonna enforce this interpretation of the law?
Maybe his protection detail should all go to 5 or 6 shot wheel guns in protest. Dan

Until LEOSA was amended, NJ cops were sweating LEOs for carrying hollow points, even though it was the only ammunition authorized by their department. It happened a lot at airports where the guns were inspected as part of the security process. Several LASD guys were detained long enough to miss flights while their LEO “status” was verified. The ammo was seized. I had to send one of my guys to the range to get more duty ammo after such an adventure.
Some cops get off on hassling other cops over BS like this.

That is messed up. If NJ cops were sweating LEOs for carrying hollowpoints, I wonder what kind of ammo NJ cops carry. |

The way I read the memo, it almost says “a crappy law took effect Dec 10th. Here’s what it says you can’t do. Inform your folks so they can plan accordingly and protect themselves. We know it’s crappy and we’re trying to fix it.”
Maybe I’m just a glass half-full kind of guy? |

Well statistically police are about 7x more lawless than citizens who have a carry permit ...

I'd argue that part of that statistic is likely flawed upward a bit due to the increased scrutiny LEO's get on/off the job; but it is still a salient point regardless of the exact number that our elected overlords are always keen to overlook

Careful, remember you are in the Law Enforcement Forum. Please re-read the rules. Your opinion is not appreciated here like it might be in off topic.

There is very little, if any logic to the reasoning behind laws that limit magazine capacity to begin with. I wouldn't look for any as this expands it's way to include law enforcement. Next up will possibly be law enforcement while on duty.

If you’re a law abiding citizen with a valid CCW permit. I’m not going to bother asking to see your gun, verify it’s ok for you to carry that gun if your county has such a restriction, or verify you have a 10rd mag capacity. That is, unless there’s a reason for me to such as if you’re a subject of a criminal investigation. |

Hate to say it but if I can’t be trusted with a standard capacity mag how can any LEO. Fair is fair even thought I hate the current laws.
Maybe when the left stops giving LEO exemptions, then we might be able to turn some of these laws around.
