You are correct that its an uphill battle and one which we who think differently than the legislators are likely to loose. That said, we have to start somewhere and educating every person who is ignorant of what is going on, regardless of their political leanings is something I think we should all strive to do at every opportunity.

All my golfing buddies who happen to be non-shooters by the way, had no idea about the new proposed laws. Most are upset about it now. What they will do is anyone's guess but at least now they know the issues.

I gotta tell ya, the choir is tone deaf.

I was at a shoot talking about the bills. No one there knew anything about the bills, not even the range staff.

We need to wake up the choir and get them singing.

Honestly, how do you combat this when the politicians do not fear threats of "we're not going to vote for you" because obviously there are many who still do and the damn unions control everything.

btw, instead of having to email for the list, why not just make it available here?? thanks!
Sounds like you've thrown in the towel. And BTW there's plenty of union shooters and gun enthusiasts throughout this State. This isn't a union inspired movement so get off that mule........ it's headed to the glue factory!

I just had a fit if creativity and wrote this to send to our illustrious politicians. I wanted to run it by the community for constructive feedback, good or bad,

I oppose Senate Bill 374 because...

1. It's unconstitutional
2. It's unconstitutional
3. It's unconstitutional

Really now, I'm confused as to why your taking the people's rights away a little at a time. Why not just go for the home run and make it illegal to own any type of firearm? Oh wait I know, because that wouldn't pass a constitutional test, and neither would this or any of the other bills being written or considered if taken to the USSC.

I'm praying that the law abiding, constitutional republic patriots, of this great state rise up and form a mighty army of class action litigants to directly oppose these draconian laws.

May not be union inspired but it sure is union funded! The whole state is bought/paid by unions by far and large. There is just simply no denying that. Towing the union line is priority #1 and as long as the unions financial interests are put above everything else, including private-union/non-union workers interests/rights/paychecks/taxes ect then people will continue to be bitter and rightfully so IMHO.

When you rob Peter (private union/non-union folk) to Pay Paul (public union workers) only Peter is bitter! In any form or fashion (interests/rights/paychecks/taxes ect).

There will be massive resistance/non-compliance. They won't really try to enforce the law. They can't. But it will slowly deprecate and dissolve the gun community. It's a cultural war and they're winning and they know it. Even if the courts toss a lot of the bills the battlespace is theirs. They control media and schools (trust me on the latter!!).

The other part of course is the "90%" issue. Even though I'd bet many non gun people might disagree they aren't motivated to care because it doesn't affect them. The "90%" that supported background checks might, might have been true but how many of that 90 were like "sure, sounds good" but beyond that were uninterested. They aren't voting on background checks. We do.

So even if we had support most Kali voters are more concerned with other issues. So even if their *******semblyman votes for it most voters won't care.

What we'd need to do is post large billboards on the 5 , 405, 80, 680. , etc ( yes I know NorCal too!!) showing a father and son being arrested for shooting a 22 that has been in the family for 25 years.

This would be awesome...A radio,TV, and billboard campaign similar to "Got Milk?" but showing common folk getting raped by the CA gun laws in different scenarios. Grandma with the 1911 that Grandpa brought home from the war and never registered getting locked up, the kid and dad with the semi auto .22, etc

I'll accept your representation of "bitter peters" but your assertion of unions and this issue is frankly outta bounds!
BTW, last time I checked collective bargaining is as important of a right as the 2nd. ....and members bargain with employers not unrepresented employees who have chosen to work for less with no or little rights.
Hating and bashing everything perceived to be as much as an inch to the left is not the way to prevail in this state.
It might work in B.F. Oklahoma................. but not here!

Not even close, the right to collective bargaining is not a constitutional right. While it may be important, collective bargaining ranks way, way below the Constitution of the United States. Collective bargaining can be voted down by a simple majority of a state legistature for the states employees of that state (remember Wisconsin?) Changing the Constitution takes 75% of the legislators in 75% of the states. Not easy to do my friend.

...and a handful of judges can vote to defeat the "right to bare arms" interpretation as well.
Collective bargaining is as much a basic freedom in our culture as any so called interpretation of a "right"....and BTW states are modifying augmenting, amending and otherwise limiting guns and shooting activities as we speak, my friend! Remember that's the subject of this thread!
This thread isn't about Unions and some bunker mentality that attributes everything and anything pro worker/wage earner as some evil.

How many here would really like to put the 2nd before SCOTUS as it applies to the intent and the literal language?
"Wanna" put all your heuvos in that miserably, perforated basket?
I'm betting, not those familiar with our legal system.

You are correct, twas not I that commented on unions and collective bargaining in the first place. I was simply responding to your post which compared collective bargaining to the 2nd Ammendment which is what this thread is about, not collective bargaining. Last time I checked I have as much right to voice my opinion as you do to voice yours. By the way the 2nd Amendment has been before SCOTUS numerous times and has been upheld as constitutional every single time.

Absolutely you do and you shouldn't have had to check on that!
I value the 1st every bit as much as the 2nd unlike some.

So then it's settled....don't comply with any laws you interpret to be unconstitutional and demonstrate boldly, the courage of your convictions. I'll be rootin' for ya from the balcony!

Don't worry, as bad as it gets I think you will still be able to "bare" your arms. Be carefull when driving, that left one tends to get sunburned when you have it in your car window.

At over 17,000 views I have accomplished what I wanted. Get the word out about the awful laws that are about to be passed in California. Keep our fingers crossed and hope the Constitution prevails.

Does anyone know if the hearing happened today? The Bill status tab (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov:80...201320140SB374) states that a hearing was scheduled for today.

Born and raised here in Communist California all my life, never living anywhere else. With California and it's Entitlement/Nanny State mentality of all these Liberal Democrats, I have closed escrow on my new AZ home! I AM A "ZONIE"! I have left Communist California for the Republic of Arizona!

This includes my bolt action Remington 770 30.06? It has a 5rnd detach mag.

WTF

Good question as the law as written seems vague in some areas. While SB374 sites semi-automatic rifles and does not mention bolt action, this part of the Bill seems to be vague on what has to be registered.

================================================== =======
The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.
Section 27566 is added to the Penal Code, to read:

27566.
(a) On and after July 1, 2014, a Firearm Ownership Record shall be submitted by prepaid mail or delivered in person to the Department of Justice for every firearm an individual owns or possesses.
(b) The following firearms are exempt from subdivision (a):

(1) Handguns purchased from a licensed firearms dealer and documented by a Dealers’ Record of Sale (DROS) transaction on and after January 1, 1991.

(2) Rifles without detachable magazines and shotguns purchased prior to January 1, 2014.

(3) Assault weapons registered with the department pursuant to Section 30900.

(4) Firearms for which a Firearm Ownership Record has been previously filed by the current owner.

(c) The department may charge a fee in an amount sufficient to reimburse the department for the reasonable costs of maintaining the Firearm Ownership Record program, but in no case more than nineteen dollars ($19) per transaction to process the Firearm Ownership Record. After the department establishes the fee amount, the department may adjust the fee amount annually as necessary to cover the reasonable costs of administering the program. The fees shall be deposited into the Dealers’ Record of Sale Special Account.

So as I read this I guess my .22lr bolt action rifles with detachable magazines have to be registered just like assualt rifles. Again I think the legislators are writing confusing law, not that I am surprised.

If I read that right it would also mean that any firearm (rifle or handgun/pistol) that you manufacture (think 80%) would also have to be registered via a Firearm Ownership Record. Is that correct???
