Angry Semi-auto .22 rifles- ban in California

Looks like Sb-374 in California will pass. That means my 10/22 will become an assuault weapon. All detachable magazine .22 will no longer be sold in California. What were the requirements last time on assault weapons? Do you have to pay a fee every year.
This really sucks. The Ruger 10/22 is my Favorite .22 rifle I own.

I have a Marlin 795 and will be in the same boat. I have two boys that I was hoping to teach them on it when they got older. If it is a registered AW, will that prevent me from allowing them to use it in CA?

I'm hoping the .22 will not become apart of this law.

Depends when you bought it. Might "only" have to register it.

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...avClient.xhtml

SB374

Existing law regulates the sale, carrying, and control of firearms, including assault weapons, and requires assault weapons to be registered with the Department of Justice. Violation of these provisions is a crime. Existing law defines a semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and other specified features and a semiautomatic weapon that has a fixed magazine with a capacity to accept 10 or more rounds as an assault weapon.

This bill would, instead, classify a semiautomatic, rimfire or centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept 10 rounds or fewer as an assault weapon. The bill would require a person who, between January 1, 2001, and prior to January 1, 2014, lawfully possessed an assault weapon that does not have a fixed magazine, including those weapons with an ammunition feeding device that can be removed readily from the firearm with the use of a tool, to register the firearm by July 1, 2014. By expanding the definition of a crime, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program.

This bill would require, on and after July 1, 2014, a Firearm Ownership Record to be submitted, as specified, to the Department of Justice for every firearm an individual owns, with prescribed exceptions, including firearms purchased from a licensed firearms dealer and documented by a Dealers’ Record of Sale transaction and assault weapons registered with the department. The bill would authorize the department to charge a fee of up to $19 per transaction for the submission of the Firearm Ownership Record.

The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.

This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason

This is just wrong. There is always a price tag attached to everything. Not only do I have to tell you what I have I also have to pay you for it. Isn't their another bill that says semi autos have to be loaded from breaking down the receiver or something along those lines, meaning no more BB.

I guess the only semiauto matic center fire rifles we get to have would be the SKS. If this thing does pass it would make my 96/22 purchase a very good one.

I just don't own any semiautos right now.

I think you would just have to register it and pay a fee. Bet it will be a yearly fee. They will also know you have it then, and could easily confiscate it if they deem them illegal in the future. Our only hope is that the NRA files a lawsuit and that may slow it down. All rifles with detachable magazines would be assault weapons and would be treated as such.

No kidding! Good old mom or dad digs out their 10/22 from deep in the closet to take their kids shooting. They go buy some ammo, take their kids to some BLM land to shoot and they get arrested for the "assault weapon" they were supposed to register 3 years previously?

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure!!

If it gets that bad were all gonna just have to go out and have a mass 10/22 rally shoot and tell them to come arrest us all.

Why do you say it will pass? Is there anything recently to lead you to say this? I m just curious because that would obviously be horrible... and sadly I havent really been following the news regarding it.

If I win the lottery, I'll convince whatever state I move to, to subsidise all of the 2A supporters here in Kommiefornia to move there.

That way, only criminal scumbags and their liberal victims will be left.

When the criminal scumbags run out of victims, we'll move back, vote 2A friendly politicians back into office and take back out state.

More importantly, they redefined an "assault weapon" as "a semiautomatic, rimfire or centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept 10 rounds or fewer", regardless of any features.

All the other features defined below as an assault weapon has been striked out. This means no more featureless builds.

(1)**A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to
line 2 accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
line 3 (A)**A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action
line 4 of the weapon.
line 5 (B)**A thumbhole stock.
line 6 (C) A folding or telescoping stock.
line 7 (D)**A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
line 8 (E)**A flash suppressor.
line 9 (F)**A forward pistol grip.
line 10 (2)**A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine
line 11 with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

These retards also want to jack up the fees up to whatever is the department's "precessing" costs. If they hire in union people at $100/hour for the job, these costs will go up. Someone needs to hand these retards a spell checker.

line 14 (e)**The department may charge a fee for registration of up to
line 15 twenty dollars ($20) per person but not to exceed the actual
line 16 processing costs of the department. After the department establishes
line 17 fees sufficient to reimburse the department for processing costs,
line 18 fees charged shall increase at a rate not to exceed the legislatively
line 19 approved annual cost-of-living adjustment for the department’s
line 20 budget or as otherwise increased through the Budget Act
line 21 department’s actual precessing costs. The fees shall be deposited
line 22 into the Dealers’ Record of Sale Special Account.

The current status of the bill (SB 374) is that it has passed the State Senate Public Safety Committee and is now on its way to the full senate. It will still have to pass the Assembly and then be signed by the governor. Here is a link to the full text of the bill: link

Seeing as how the Democrats hold a significant majority in the legislature, there is probably a good possibility of this passing.

I think a lot of people are missing the fact that the true notice at hand is not to disarm us, but our children, grandchildren etc. They say that they're not taking away guns, and that everyone gets to keep theirs, but hide the fact that it CANNOT be transfered down, and of course all future sales of semi autos will be prohibited in California. THIS IS scary and people should be scared. If you listened to the audio/video of the entire proceedings yesterday for all 12 bills it's crystal clear where this is intended to go. Now they're even talking about smart guns. Hell, they would love that, with a click on the keyboard your weapon is useless.

you've hit the nail on the head. this is their plan exactly. honestly, they're smart enough to know that confiscation is gonna be ugly, in many ways. they don't care. this is not about guns or even about safety. it's about radically reshaping the culture. simply put they know that over time future generations will be "immune" to the lure of the firearm, and will learn to associate guns with crime and anti-social behavior.

I've said it before, and I'll repeat it again.

this country is NOT the same country it was 30 years ago. it is NOT worth fighting and dying over. those in uniform overseas, they are fighting for what??? this!!!

I know many of you here served in the armed forces. thank you. but this country, right now, isn't worth it. not even a bit. liberty is worth fighting for. this country isn't. period.

The majority of people are not even going to know this law exists, much less that their traditional looking guns are assault weapons.

You mean this thing:

(My Marlin .22 Model 60)

WILL BE (IF IT BECOMES LAW) a assualt weapon?

Last time around they did not include tube fed rifles.

The .22 caliber rifle is the iconic symbol of the American Youth. If they mess with the 10/22 or tube fed rifles, they have more than crossed the line.

I think a tube fed would be considered a fixed magazine wouldnt it?

Either way this is just plain STUPID. The only ray of light I suppose (if there is one) is that I dont think it will hold up in court.
