Default which should i buy GSG STG-44 .22 or a HK mp5 .22

I am not sure which to get a GSG STG 44 or a HK MP5 in .22. I am looking to buy one or the other of these .22s. I am looking for help and opinions of which one is better.

Thats a tuffy, My kids and I were checking out the mp5 at Big 5 we waited to be helped after a while just standing there we walked out. They looked pretty cool with a fake can . My kids loved it ,I would have of purchased it if they showed it to us. I ended going to Bass Pro and got lucky and picked up a 10/22.
The stg looks pretty cool to . With the way the market is get the one you can find in stock.

You can read up on my HK MP5 journal.
I love mine and would highly recommend it.
So that would be my choice Plus I like the modern tacticool look.

I like my Stg-44. It's heavy, and about the size of an AR with an 20" barrel. I really like the sights on it. Shoots fine. GSG recommends High velocity ammo be shot through it. Might be hard to find right now and expensive. Mags can be hard to find also.

I went with the MP5 too. I've always liked the MP5s and HK in general, so that was the choice for me. It's been a lot of fun to shoot and it's been flawless so far. I never owned a rimfire before, but I'm at 1000 rounds of bulk ammo without any issues and I don't think that's normal for most 22s.

I have the GSG MP5 and would choose the GSG STG 44 today.

There's nothing wrong with my MP5, it's just that there are a lot of them out there. The STG 44 is far more rare and distinctive looking. It will get far more attention at the range for sure.

But the STG is a LOT heavier than the MP5 if that matters to you.

Buy both!!!

I got to shoot a HK MP5 .22 last week. I was very impressed both by it's accuracy and reliability.

well i can get the STG 44 for $610 and its in stock......the mp5 would be $530 and would be back ordered. I have read in reviews that the mp5 stock is wiggly when you are trying to shoot thus loose accuracy.

STG44 hands down. Feels better and those MP5 22lr are a dime a dozen. There are all over the place, everyone has one. The STG is a lot more expensive and aftermarket parts for it are harder, but for a fun gun which a .22LR replica rifle is like the STG wins hands down IMO. Not all the 22LR MP5 clones are the same either, some are better made than others.

HV ammo with no problems but CCI STINGERS caused some failures but
that is no biggy with Stingers selling for about $.30 a rd! Pete

I own the Mp5 and it has never failed me. It is really fun to shoot and everyone that sees it thinks it's cool. That being said i was at Tracy rifle and pistol this past weekend and was buying something else and asked to see the stg44. i immediately fell in love with it. i loved the way it felt. It was a very well built piece. So i bought it also.
Can't wait till it gets out of jail!

Picking up the stg on wed. I am not a huge .22 fan but was Considering the mp5. When they announced the sturmgewehr I had to have one. When I did the ppt everyone in the store had to come check it out. Its heavy but being used to a Garand and fal it is not really an issue. can't wait to get it up to the pistol gallery and plink.

i own both and both are great guns
MP5 has more after market parts and is lighter. quite accurate and very fun to shoot. the bolt can be adjusted to shoot reg velocity ammo.
STG44 is 9+ pds with great sights. Getting 10 rd mags was the hardest part. as an added bonus, i love the wood crate it comes in.

I have enough spare magazines. I'd let one go for $50, locally.

10rd mags for the STG 44 were not available until a few months ago. I had to wait 5 month before the finally hit the market. Now easy to find.

If your not shooting properly it is. As long as you are smart enough to get that stock in your shoulder pocket its solid all day, as well as they sell the A5 fixed stock for it seperately. As well as it says you need high velocity, well wouldnt you know it; their is a spring tensioning nut on it to help with that. I got risky one day and shot sub sonic thru it and it cycled with no issues!

Tracer666, there has also been considerable discussion on the 'Net about the STG wood stock coming loose. Not falling out loose. Just loose.

Saw one at the Bay Area Gun Vault and did an impulse buy.

There were some quality control issues from the factory, but Gary fixed them in a few minutes after I pointed them out. (He actually got a missing part from his display model and made my rifle whole. Thanks Gary.)

Now I will be ready for my Asian Fallschirmjaeger impersonation.

Hey Roger what kind of issues where you talking about? What was the missing part and what did he charge you for the rifle. Thanks.

The rear sight detent lock washer whatever was missing. So the rear sight was not solidly locked in place. He took the tiny washer off of his display model and installed it on mine. The pin that holds the stock and the receiver together - the detent spring was something like a quarter to a half inch short from the end of the pin, so that it would not spring out and lock the two pieces together. He used a punch to make it go to the end. (I had tried to pull it with my fingers but could not make it budge much.)

Think the price was like $650 before taxes/fees. Haven't seen them around in the few gun stores I have visited in the last year.

I went with the HK since i want repair / replacement parts. The limited supply of those with the STG 44 tells me it will be nearly impossible to repair. This is a cloned firearm using modern manufacturing, which means its subject to easy break downs.

There are already dozens of shops offering stuff for the Walther HK design.

Where is this misinformation coming from? ATI has spare parts for the STG,
mine has digested over a 1000 rds of various 22 without any breakdowns
and I don't really anticipate any! I think the HK is also produced
using "modern manufacturing".

Its not misinformation, its based on my experience. Its a rare gun to see. That translates to few sales, which translates to small profit for ATI.

Are you sure ATI will be around for 100 years? Is the STG is so popular there will be 100s of retailers selling dozens of after market parts for it? Is it selling so good that ATI will never stop producing it or parts for it?

No, No and No.

Walther /Umarex & HK will be around forever and so will the hundreds if not thousands of retail stores selling parts for it. Even though HK has nothing to do with it, their aftermarket parts fit it since its nearly identical to the 9mm.

Its greatest asset is what everyone is complaining about, its a very common gun to see at the range. That translates to a wide consumer support.

Once ATI stops making parts, the owners of those mil-surp clones are screwed. Ask a M17S owner how easy it is to get repair parts.

I love my STG. ATI usually has the 10rd spare mags in stock while the 24rd ones are usually sold out. I saw a bunch of the 10rd mags being resold on ebay for inflated prices. I would recommend buying up some spare mags simply because they are most likely going to wear out faster than any other part of the gun.
