Don't forget, besides battling for us they organize shooting sports events and clinics (imagine that!).

After taking part in Women on Target and a few other things I finally, belatedly got my membership. (I was waiting for the free duffel bag offer to come up again. I have no shame. Eek)

Signed up with the purchase of my first firearm a couple months ago

Only received my cool NRA hat though, still no membership card.
I don't mind though as I was able to get my member ID and setup my online account and activate my fire-arm insurance.

Hoorah!

Thank you and welcome to the new NRA members! Thanks for making that commitment to our 2nd Amendment.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Some things to know.

1) You will get mail and solicitations. None of that is paid for by your membership fees. * You can opt out of the mail/emails by going to the members section of the NRA.org web site. It is everyone's hope that you will eventually become a life and life + member.
2) Hotel, car rental and other discounts are listed on the web site as well. Also look closely at the firearm insurance, best out there.
3) California is the only State with a NRA Members Council. Most legislation oriented, but find yours and get involved if you can.
4) You can opt in to get your monthly magazine digital and not have it mailed.
5) You can get all the magazines delivered digitally for a tiny $ more.
6) The NRA has many departments. The ILA (Legislative) does not get one cent of your membership money. (It's the law) The PVF is Political Victory Arm. The NRA Foundation is the charity arm (Write off donations) The Friends of NRA folks are always looking for people to assist them raise money. (Please attend at least one a year, good time, good like minded people and good food, all with guns)

I don't have all the answers, but will be happy to get them for you.
Use your membership, stay involved and stay active. Put that little NRA sticker on your car window and head nod me when I drive passed.

* Mailings are paid for by the NRA Board allocating set amounts of money in gained investment interest from the *advanced Life Members fees. *Endowment, Patron and Benefactor.

Just got my NRA hat and membership card.
Back in the mid 60's I would go out with my dad and shoot my shotgun and my grandfathers Winchester Model 94 in the washes of Mentone in So Cal. Having a gun seemed no more evil than having a golf club. It was just fun. Life happened, army, collage, work, family, etc and I didn't have time/money for shooting. I recently decided that shooting would be a good hobby and went to purchase a handgun for target fun and personal defense in these trying times. That's when I got a shock on what had happened to California laws while I was paying no attention. Keeping my own gun locked up in my own home! Locked in trunk just to drive with it! Cannot even get a license to carry for "personal defense".
It may not be perfect, but, I had to join NRA.

I signed up to the NRA in 2014 when I started buying my guns and just this week purchased my life membership. I am so excited to be a part of this great community of loyal gun owners. Also proud to support the NRA!

I did not know about the opt out when I joined a bit over a year ago at Turners.

The solicitations and phone calls annoy me so I asked in a letter if they could fix that before I renewed. They did not respond.

Do I have to re-join first, then log in to delete solicitations?

thanks.

Yes, if you rejoin, you can do it right away on line, or call the 800 number and they will add you to the no solicit list!

NRA Member Programs 1-800-672-3888

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?

A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

Happy to help! Also more happy to have you back!!

I am now a life member...to get rid of the solicitations since I didn't know I could opt out, I gave them my FAX number as my contact phone (yes I still have a FAX machine and dedicated line to it for my work) and since I own my domain, I created a special e-mail address just for the NRA that I can delete anytime

I actually assumed I could opt out somehow but I also didn't believe it would work since it never works for spammers and I would not trust the NRA to fully opt me out. I do get stuff in snail mail but its not like it was in the 1970-80s where it seemed to be a daily letter in the mail, now its manageable.

Thanks for the Life Membership.
The opt out works great. No need to be so clandestine. I have chosen to receive all the mail, as I like to know what the organization is doing and what they are communicating to it's members. But your life, do with it as you choose!
But don't stop giving. It costs money to beat back the Bloombergs of the world. Try to dedicate 5 bucks a month to the ILA. Or send in a check and write in the memo section, "For Training Only"! (Whatever section you want)

However, since your membership expired, you can not vote for the NRA Board, you know that right? You must maintain 5 years of uninterrupted membership to vote in annual elections. I was an annual member for 10 years back in the 1970s, missed by 42 days my renewal and lost my privledge. I upgraded then to Life to get my voting rights back.

Many deals for Life Membership come along, make a move on one.

To me, no way does the NRA in its 21st Century form meet that standard. I'm old enough to remember the NRA before and during vietnam, it passed the sniff test up to about the mid 80's. Today, no way.

Only in the last few years I've noticed booths and people actively soliciting outside of gun shows, or what once were gun shows offering free admission if you'll enroll in or renew your NRA membership. My reply has always been; 'why, so the NRA can pretend their a grass roots organization?' Myself and my position have been equally popular there.

Having said that (Oh dear, I've done it again) I'll now hunker down in my bunker for a while and try and survive the death threats, strafing fire, J-DAM's and trolls.
I have been a member of the NRA since 1975. I watched the change occur. I watched as the hunting membership wanted to take their little 700,000 member organization out west and leave the DC area.
You have chosen your path, I respect that. I believe you to be wrong and I will not be nasty about it.
Now the NRA, without you, has grown to over 5.6 million members. Some of the hunting NRA members were happy to leave and let the government run over the 2nd amendment. I have been fighting with the NRA all those years to win back our God given rights. We win more than we lose, the NRA is NOT stuck in 1970, they grew.

If you would like to have a respectful, truthful debate about the NRA history, I might be your guy. Lastly, I have seen the ACLU and the NRA work side by side in court. Have you?

New to this forum, been an NRA member for a few years now. Don't know what took me so long since my father has been a lifetime member since I was about 10 years old, 37 now.
