Default AR 80% complete with Easy Jig Gen 2

I complete an AR 80% lower with Easy Jig Gen 2 from 80% arms and would like to share a few tips. It was my first time attempting this.

1. Most videos on youtube builds on 6061 aluminum and I did a mil spec 7075 aluminum one. 7075 will definitely take more time since I need to do twice number of milling passes than the jig instruction recommends. But if you take your time and you will get good results. Patient is the key.

2. The new generation of Jig has vacuum attachments which is great for controlling chips from spreading everywhere. DO NOT use wife's expensive dyson vacuum and fill it with aluminum chips. JUST DONT.

3. The chip is very easy to stick to the routing edge combined with cutting oil and heat. You'll have to clean it up after every pass or your lowers side wall won't be as smooth not that it matters in terms of function.

4. Wear your shooting ear muff. The noise is significant.

5. I have to use a drill press to drill the first hole. I tried with hand drill and it won't work for 7075 aluminum type lower. Maybe 6061 lower is easier.

I also polish the inside a bit with metal polish and it helps to smooth some rough marks. All in all, the jig is pretty easy to use and hold the lower firm and square. I paired it with odin complete upper and it shoots great!

07/01 is coming. Act now

Well done. Also donít finish your lower barefoot no matter how warm it is in your garage... I read that somewhere. Good tip as well.

Nice work! Good tip too about the wife's vacuum. We actually saw a photo where the customer milled the lower in the house over the carpet. Must of been single or soon to be after that!

Nice job. 7075 is definitely tougher than 6061, and will give a better finish.

I haven't used 5d tactical jig yet. I had good luck with 5d tactical lower. I would think as long as the lower is held security on the jig, it would work. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I'd guess we've done close to 40 lowers using the gen 1, full size router and a drill press or hand drill. One of my Nephews has the jig and router now. He said they had to replace one of the pieces on the jig. That jig has held up real well.

Wow! Nicely done. That's the smoothest DIY I've seen.

You mentioned 7075 which 80% did you go with? 80PercentArms only sells 6061, or did I miss the 7075 option?

Most of the lowers we did on the Gen1 jig were 7075 from TM, they were around 30.00 a couple years ago.
