A few questions and a comment:
  1. Since it's an "Intermediate Pistol Course" how do you make sure no novices are in there?
  2. Is it 9am to 5pm each day?
  3. If you ended up with a full complement of 20 students how many instructors / assistant instructors will you have? By the way, the post here says maximum of 20 students whereas the website link (http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/...tol/Detail.bok) says 16.
  4. The class is over the Thanksgiving Day holidays!

Starts at 9:00am, but range will open for gear up at 8:30am. The class instruction usually stops at around 4:30pm so the students can pack up and leave the range by 5:00pm

16 is the max, but we can go upto 20 students. Like our last class, we had 21 students and Jason was able to handle safety and give attention to each individual students. Jason also have additional AI to bring out.

We understand it is over the holiday weekend, but we took a chance since it is the only range time we can arrange and thanksgiving being on Thursday, the weekend would be a great time for most of us to work off the meal we had on Thursday

(1.) We ask, but usually guys police themselves very well with this type of stuff. If a guy feels his qualifications might be questionable they usually email me and ask. Hint: prior training resumes are not always indicative of someone's true skill level. Vetting students is more of an art form than merely "Show Me your training resume".

(2.) Up to sixteen students Jason will handle on his own; if we go over that he is bringing a 2nd RB1 instructor to act as an A.I. Like most classes with instructors of this caliber that will require two strings of shooters. 8-1 or 10-1 ratio of student to instructor is very good in this industry. If you find yourself in a class with a ratio better than that you’re either in a private class or more likely that’s all the students the instructor/organization could get to sign-up.

(3.) Like Chen stated it’s 0830 to 1630 each day.

(4.) Yes, it’s a Holiday weekend. Thursday is actually Thanksgiving, and the class is being held Sat-Sun. What better way to work off that big Turkey dinner than an awesome training class?

Please let me know if you need anything else. I am always glad to help.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks Paul and Chen for your direct responses. I'm probably going to give it a try and signup next week. I'm impressed with Jason and his fluid shooting and instruction abilities from what I've read, seen and heard.

Welcome aboard guys.

This will be one awesome class.

Look for numerous Grey Group Training classes in 2011 from the likes of Ken Hackathorn, Larry Vickers, TigerSwan, Mike Pannone, Pat McNamara, Rob Haught, etc.

For Southern California I only see the following pistol classes. Is that correct? When will you have Larry Vickers coming down for a 2-day pistol class?
  1. JASON FALLA 2-Day INTERMEDIATE PISTOL CLASS on NOVEMBER 27-28, 2010 in CHINO, CA
  2. KEN HACKATHORN 2-DAY ADVANCED HANDGUN CLASS on JANUARY 15-16, 2011 in CHINO, CA
I know Larry speaks very highly of Ken Hackathorn so I'll get in on that. I have already registered for Jason's late November class and really looking forward to it.

I'm interested in taking at least one Intermediate/Advanced Pistol class with the three hosts of Tactical Arms & Tactical Impact: Larry Vickers, Kyle Defoor and Jason Falla. The reasoning is not just due to those TV shows but their real world experiences plus years of instructing students. My personal preference leans towards a 2-day Advanced Pistol class in Southern California.

Quote:
Larry Vickers

20 year U.S. Army Special Operations veteran with 15 yrs. in America's most elite unit - Delta Force. Combat Veteran of numerous classified combat operations. Recipient of Bronze Star with Valor and 17 other service awards. Internationally renowned marksmanship instructor.

Kyle DeFoor

Eight years of service in the U.S. Navy, with Seal Team 8 and DevGru. Awarded the Bronze Star with Valor. Kyle is a skilled, experienced pistol and rifle instructor for special operations units world-wide. Kyle currently works for TigerSwan.

Jason Falla

Twelve years of service in the Australian Defense Force, Commando Regiment and Special Air Service Regiment. Awarded the Citation for Meritorious Service Afghanistan and the Citation for Gallantry Iraq. Jason was a Firearms and Tactics Instructor for U.S. Training Center.

Wow awesome training in bound to CA in '11. I hope the classes are distributed throughout the year as I'd like to take all of them!

The original post for the Hackathron pistol class in January says Advanced not Intermediate: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=334985

Who will teach the TigerSwan int/adv pistol class in July?

Ken's class is what is posted in the original thread. i was just going off by memory.

Correction, Ken's class in Jan will be an advanced pistol class.

Tigerswam should be by Kyle defoor and one other ex-Delta operator TS instructor. but don't hold me to it, it is up to TS to make the final decision. but all TS instructors are either Delta or Dev Group.

Thanks Chen, all these classes are a go and should be posted up by Friday at the latest.

It would be one hell of a training year.

Plus four classes in Castro Valley, CA as well.

I'd bet my money on 2-3 of these TS instructors;

Public resumes for some of the TigerSwan instructor cadre:

Brian Searcy - Sergeant Major, USA (Ret) - Instructor

Prior to taking this position, Brian served as a civilian consultant to the Pentagon’s Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Defeat Task Force. He worked in Iraq and the United States training Soldiers and Marines how to predict, prevent, detect, and mitigate the IED threat to personnel and facilities.

Brian is a 23 year Army Special Operations veteran who culminated 16 years with Delta Force (1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta) as the unit’s Operations Sergeant Major. His leadership experience ranges from serving as a military advisor in Central and South America to serving as the Command Sergeant Major (senior enlisted advisor) for a 1700 person Special Operations Task Force in Iraq. A decorated combat leader, his awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.

Brian has briefed President Bush and members of the NSC on capabilities and limitations of special operations forces. He has lead protection details for high ranking government and military officials in high threat and combat environments. As an instructor in Delta, Brian wrote and taught classes in assault planning, VIP protection, rifle and pistol marksmanship, explosive and mechanical breaching, close quarters battle, vehicle assaults and hand to hand combat. He served as the program manager and primary instructor for the Unit’s shooting and hand to hand programs.

Brian has extensive sniper experience, both as an operational sniper and a trainer. He is a graduate of the Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC) and has real world experience in planning, coordinating, integrating and leading tactical sniper operations.
A competitive shooter for over 20 years, Brian has competed at the top levels of competition in both precision and action shooting. Brian is a U.S. Army Distinguished Pistol Shot and has been awarded the President’s Hundred Tab. His other marksmanship accolades include: Overall Winner- 2005 Joint Special Operations Command Small Arms Championships and the 2003 North Carolina Indoor Conventional Pistol Champion. In addition to receiving a bachelor's degree in government from Campbell University, Brian has earned a master’s degree in public administration from Central Michigan University. Additionally he has completed an executive leadership program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Tony Copper, Command Sergeant Major, USA (Ret) – Instructor

Tony is a 26 year Army Special Operations veteran who culminated 19 years with Delta Force (1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta) as the unit's Selection and Training Sergeant Major. His leadership experiences range from leading small executive protection teams to serving as the Command Sergeant Major for a Delta Sabre Squadron. He has served in hostile fire/combat zones in Central America, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. His combat experience includes Operations Urgent Fury (Grenada), Just Cause (Panama), Unosom II (Somalia), Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Iraqi Freedom (OIF). A decorated combat leader, his military awards include the Silver Star and Legion of Merit.

Tony has lead protection details for high ranking government and military officials in high threat and combat environments. As an instructor in Delta (for new Delta Operators), Tony wrote and taught classes in assault planning, VIP protection, rifle and pistol marksmanship, mechanical and shotgun breaching, advanced MOUT and close quarters battle, Close Quarters Battle using Night Vision Goggles and artificial illumination, vehicle assaults (overt and low visibility), reacting to contact in vehicles, and surgical marksmanship and target discrimination. Any chance Kyle Defoor will be one of the TigerSwan instructors for that Intermediate/Advanced Pistol class next year?

Also, I'd love to see an Advanced Pistol class by Larry Vickers in Southern California.

Thus far, the weather for this weekend's Jason Falla class still looks good: mostly sunny, no chance of rain, less windy and the temperature picking up a little. The sun sets at 4:42pm right around quitting time.

Wish him well and looking forward to attending one of his few open enrollment classes in 2011.

Class act giving homage and credit to others like: John Shaw, Ross Sanders, Jerry Barnhart, Bill Go, Jason Falla, Looey Gines, Tony Reeves, Larry Vickers and J.D. Potynsky.

Yeah, chances are slim Kyle will make this class for TigerSwan. Although he will still be working with TS when his schedule allows I kind of doubt it will work out for this class that way.

You are still going to get 1-2 long time Tier One Special Operations veterans as instructors. You can take that to the bank.
