CCW permit?????

I was wondering if I am able to get my CCW permit at 20 years old?? I am a real estate agent and I show abandoned homes that are often broken into Or even in bad neighborhoods at all hours of day/night..
Can I or can I not?

I've been contenplating this my self..

I think I could easily qualify. But I think where is get shut down every time is the FTF meeting with your country sherrif to explain why you need to a CCW and what is will serve that the LEOs can't be solved with LEOs..

Of course I know they would pretty much shut down EVERYTHING you throw at them feeling like gods when you doubt their ability they can do/handle anything.. But when you expect it they being the oh well.. Actually loop holes on why they aren't obligated or exempt from certain tasks.

But the paper work/fee side and need for one I think with my current job and responcibilaties would technically qualify me.

Handgun transfer to 18-20 is OK

27875 (was 12078(c)(2)) also means parents or grandparents can transfer handguns to children or grandchildren 18 or older. Since it's illegal for dealers to transfer handguns to people under 21, this is the way people 18, 19 and 20 can legally receive handguns. (Penal Code 25605*(was 12026) is quite clear that those 18 and over can "own, possess, [and] keep ..." a pistol or revolver.)

Because it is not stipulate by CA laws, the minimum age requirement for issuance is up to the issuing agency to decide.

So, you need to find out from your issuing agency on if they will issue to a person age 18-20.

As other's have said. Yes, you can own a handgun at 20 years old. Gifted handgun transfer via Mother/Father, or Grandmother/Grandfather. You need your HSC and that's about it.

As far as the CCW goes. It really depends on what county you live in. Some are very easy (Sacramento for instance) while others are near impossible (LA county, SF county) but not impossible. Siblings are not immediate family. [PC 16720]
Any transfers between siblings needs to be done through a CA FFL dealer.
FFL dealers can not transfer handguns to persons under the age of 21.



Penal Code 16720
As used in this part, "immediate family member" means either of the following relationships:
(a) Parent and child.
(b) Grandparent and grandchild.

My wife's Grandfather gave me a real nice S&W 686 a while back.

I sent in the inter-famial transfer paperwork in my name only & it was approved by CA DOJ.

So don't rule out the inlaws either....

Relevant Penal Code Sections:

Age for CCW:
26150. (a) When a person applies for a license to carry a pistol,
revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the
person, the sheriff of a county may issue a license to that person
upon proof of all of the following: No minimum age is specified.
However, some issuing agencies require age 21.

26155. (a) When a person applies for a license to carry a pistol,
revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the
person, the chief or other head of a municipal police department of
any city or city and county may issue a license to that person upon
proof of all of the following: No minimum age is specified.
However, some issuing agencies require age 21.

Age to Purchase handgun:
27505. (a) No person, corporation, or firm shall sell, loan, or
transfer a firearm to a minor, nor sell a handgun to an individual
under 21 years of age. (Exceptions exist).

27510. No person licensed under Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive,
shall sell, supply, deliver, or give possession or control of a
handgun to any person under the age of 21 years, or any other firearm
to a person under the age of 18 years. (No exceptions listed).

Just because the CA DOJ did not know you were violating the law does not mean you were not violating the law.

That's how the legislature wrote the law. Trying to figure out the 'why' of a gun-related law leads only to madness.
