308 BCG Nickel Boron - $299
Just came across a website selling 308 BCG's for $299 but I've never heard of this company before. Has anyone hear of 762 Industries? I've need a BCG to finish my 308 build but no one seems to have them in stock. I'll call the company and they assured me that they actually have them in stock. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I've posted the link below.

I picked one up, feels risky. However, there have been a couple good reports by Calgunners. It was $300.14 shipped. Here are my pro's and con's. There are about 60 left in stock.
1) STI and BHinkley have provided good feedback about the product and quick shipping. 2) These are listed on Amazon for $400. 3) Paid using PayPal, so it's not like they are just collecting your credit card info. 4) The alternative is buying a factory DPMS BCG. Aren't you taking some risk there? 5) I'd feel better if it had an explicit warranty. 6) The company does not have a reputation. Every company starts this way. 7) 8) The specs are really good. It has a lot of potential. Specs: Bolt: 9310 steel, MPI tested, case-hardened, nickel-boron coated Carrier: 8626 steel, staked with original Colt Mil-Spec screws, heat-treated, nickel-boron coated, full-auto rated Gas key: Original Colt Mil-Spec screws, staked, nickel-boron coated Extractor: Heat-treated, dual nested extractor springs exceeding Mil-Spec, nickel-boron coated Cam*pin: Heat-treated, nickel-boron coated Info on Nickel Boron: 68 Rockwell C is 40% more wear resistant than chrome plating, with an ultra-low friction coefficient. Surface is actually harder than the substrate underneath and will not peel, flake, gall, or rub off. Last edited by electric7; 05-15-2013 at 6:31 AM.. |

Finally decided to take a chance and place an order but the price is higher now. Apparently they had a sale that expired yesterday and now they are back to $339.99. I told him that I found the deal and posted it on CalGuns and he agreed extend the sale price $299.99 to the first ten people to order bcg's by using the coupon code "calguns". I ordered one tonight and the code worked, so there should be nine left at this lower price. I'll report back once I receive my carrier.
Here is their number 1-800-903-8230. Last edited by rdgda; 05-14-2013 at 10:33 PM.. |

Just 2 observations, your number 7...the DPMS LR-308 does not use serrations on the carrier for the forward assist. It pushes on the back edge of the carrier , where the carrier transitions from buffer tube size to receiver bearing surface size. When you get your carrier in hand,as long as you have a forward assist on your upper receiver ( Not a slick sided upper receiver ) ...your forward assist will work just fine. Second observation, you should always check headspace on a standard phosphate coated 308 bolt ...MAKE SURE you check this one with it being nickel boron plated . Even DPMS knows better than to plate their tight *** 308 bolts, so if somebody sent a bunch of standard DPMS phosphate 308 bolts out to their own plating shop...just make sure you check headspace before using it. |

Per an email reply from 762 industries, the nickel boron coating for the bolt is applied directly to raw steel.
So, there is no phosphate coating under the nickel boron coating on the bolt. |

I sent a bunch of bcg out to get coated and will check headspace when I get it back to see if there was any discernable difference. |

Here it is
The 308 NiB bolt carrier group arrived today. Here are some pics. Being critical, one thing some will take issue with is no MP stamp on bolt. Another thing is there is tooling marks on the rails, not quite as smooth as I expected. Also on the lower rail, there are actually teeth marks from the machining. Not sure if these tooling marks will cause excess wear on the aluminum upper. Other than that, there doesn't appear to be anything that would prevent it from doing it's job. I leave it up to you guys to make your own judgement.

THATS the reason you need to check headspace , not that they didnt plate it correctly ...its that the plating being thicker as applied compared to phosphate . So the bolt face now has a thicker plating on it, as well as the back of the bolt locking lugs( The surfaces of the lugs pointing towards the rear of the carrier that actually touch the barrel extension during lockup ) that interface with the barrel extension...tolerance stacking can cause the headspace issues. More likely than not, you wont have an issue...but on a 308 bolt I would definitely check the headspace before use. |

Took it out to the range and it worked flawlessly! Totally impressed with the accuracy using 168 federal gold medal match. Consistently shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards out of my 14.5" barrel (with welded break of course).I'll try and get some pics up shortly.

Darn got mine & broke it in the 1st 60 seconds. Here's what I sent to them, maybe some one can help
Invoice#1146 Just got my 308 BCG, it felt like it was hanging up or sticky when the bolt moved in the carrier. I removed the the bolt from the carrier to look at it & see how it moved without the other components installed. The blot slid into the rear of the carrier & is now STUCK. It will not come back out. Can you give me some help here. Thanks

Just received and installed mine last night. Same issue with "teeth" from the machining and other machining marks, but otherwise pretty nice. You can hear it sawing it's way in and out of the receiver, but not sure if it's actually an issue.
On my MATEN with the front pivot pin in, I can't close the receiver with the BCG in by just rotating the upper. I need to fully remove upper and slide it in from the forward position. Anyone else have this issue? |

Just got mine in today and am a little bummed. The rear of the bolt has scratches on it and spots where it seems the NiB coating did not take. I sent them an email and left a voice mail. Their customer service reports seem great so far so I'm not to worried yet. I'll keep everyone posted on any updates.

I requested a replacement after having an issue with the gas rings. They were very responsive and sent me another almost immediately. I found machining burs on the two gas ports on the inside of the carrier that was chewing up the gas rings as they go back an forth. Does anybody else have this issue and how significant is this in the overall operation of the BCG? It resulted in a really gritty feeling when pushing the bolt back and forth in the carrier.

OK, I took out the .308 BCG made by 762-Industries today I thought I would post some pics of the results and some side by side pics of my stock DPMS BCG and the 762 Industries BCG.
Pics: #1 This is two five shot groups at 100 yard using 168 gr. FGMM. (I think hand loads will help tremendously) #2 This is a side by side of my stock DPMS BCG and the 762 Industries BCG. #3 This is a pic of one wipe with a wet nap after 60 rd of FGMM and about 10 rd of military surplus. (I think it cleaned up very well) #4 This is a bottom view of the BCG engaged with the barrel extension. #5 This is a side by side of the bolt faces of my DPMS BCG and the 762 Industries BCG. Final thoughts I am really impressed with the 762 Industries BCG and at 299.00 I think this is a great buy. Also, I must give it up to 762 Industries for not trying to price gouge us unlike some people. |
