Mauser- Need help finding all the info I can
A friend got a few rifles a few years ago from his Grandfather.
Today we went to the gun show and bought a bayonet for it. I told him I knew the perfect place for info on these things. CalGuns. We are trying to find info on them. Bayonets history, what ammo, markings anything you can tell us. Value, conflicts anything. He doesn't plan on selling any of them. But would like to know what he has. He has a few that he finally decided to look at. Anything you can share to the information and places we can look for information, besides here as we are. Thanks all. I'm not a Mauser guy, but it looks like a Banner Mauser from Austria. Maybe this will give you a little insight.

It's really a commercial rifle, made for the civilian target shooting market, so a bayonet was not used. You will want to perform a chamber cast to verify its chambering. The 8.15 x 46R cartridge was a low-power cartridge used for target shooting out to about 300 meters. Prior to the First World War, the Gewehr 98 was available commercially in 8.15 x 46R, while military Gewehr 98s were chambered in 8 x 57. This allowed for civilian club rifles that were not readily usable to equip a military force to overthrow the government.
Congrats on a beautiful, scarce Mauser rifle. |

From Gunboards:
Not me - I just did a google search on mauser T. sT. v. (There was a group that uses the SSTV initial's- but your rifle is not anything to do with them.) "...You have a "Wehrmanngewehr der Tiroler Standschutzen". The T.St.V. stands for "Tiroler Standschutzen Verband" - or I have also seen it listed as "Tiroler Standschutzenverband Vorarlberg". Either way, it refers to Gau Tirol-Vorarlberg, an area in northern Austria. Evidently these rifles were purchased by this Tyrolean shooting club as a group and used in their marksmanship events. I don't think they were given out as prizes. Like yours, all are made by Mauser and bear the Mauser banner on the receiver bridge. The finish and workmanship is nothing short of phenominal. All are 8.15x46R caliber. Most of these rifles have the paper label on the buttstock, I'm not sure of the significance. I currently have 19 of these rifles in my database. Your serial number is one of the later rifles in this group. I show only one other in the 208xx range It's less than 50 numbers from yours. The next lower number from yours is 2079x. Most range from 200xx through 207xx. I also show two consecutively numbered rifles. BTW, your safety lever should be numbered also. Does it match the rest of the bolt?..."

I will check. This is awesome. We want to fill out cards for each one and have some background, history and Correct caliber.
I will check the safety lever to see if it does match the rest of the bolt and get back to you. Going to post some info on another one today too. Thank you thank you thank you to anyone that can share some info or resources to find info on them. "I said good day!"
